About the Role The Waste and Resource Management branch is a Type 2 business unit of council which provides a number of services to both the council and community in the area of waste management, and taking a lead role in the formulation of waste management strategy to align with the sustainability vision of council and advocates and manages solutions to deliver on this strategy including resource conservation.
The Environmental & Contract Project Officer will implement Waste and Resource Management's (WRM) environmental obligations and sustainability opportunities at operational and closed waste facilities, assist in managing, developing, implementing, reviewing and maintaining effective waste management operations and programs.
Key Responsibilities: Project manage the environmental compliance of operational and closed landfills. Project manage planning and delivery of solid waste infrastructure, contracts and operations. Act as and undertake contract administrator role and duties. Supervision of contractors (through contract management) at Landfills (operational and closed), Transfer Stations, Resource Recovery Centres and other waste facilities. Undertake procurement activities for a range of goods and services in accordance with Council Procurement Guidelines including writing specifications, prepare and maintain contract management plans and tender evaluations. Review technical environmental reports and scientific papers, undertake technical duties associated with Environmental Authority and General Environmental Duty compliance associated with operational landfills, transfer stations and closed landfills. About You As a professional in environmental compliance and contracts and projects, you will have qualification and/or demonstrated project and contract management experience.
You will possess comprehensive knowledge of environmental legislation and policy likely to impact on waste management.
You will have high developed interpersonal and communication skills, with strong business acumen including the ability to prepare professional business communication.
As a requirement of this role, you will possess formal relevant qualification (Degree) in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering or equivalent and/or substantial experience in relevant Government or private sectors, preferably in the Waste or other regulated industry.
Pre-Employment Medical Required Essential to your success is physical agility and the level of fitness, strength and dexterity to carry out labouring and frequent heavy lifting & bending. As such, appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.
