Lead a dedicated team to deliver high-quality English language programs for asylum seekersMake a real difference in the lives of individuals seeking refuge by providing essential language supportBe part of a passionate and inclusive team committed to supporting the journey of asylum seekersMinimum commitment: 6 months
Days and hours required per week: 5 hours a week. Days negotiable.
Location: Majority of hours can be completed remotely online with some face to face engagement with volunteer teachers required at Newtown. 

Key Responsibilities:

This role is Second In Charge (2IC) to the Team Leader English Language Program and provides coverage as needed of the following Team Leader tasks:
Implement English Program Intake, Language Assessment and Class Allocation processesRefer prospective students to approved external service providers as requiredBuild a collegial relationship with a team of volunteer, qualified English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers and support them with additional ESL resources, information, and troubleshootingSupport Line Manager to facilitate regular meetings with the teaching teamCollaborate with Line Manager to collect and record student and facilitator feedback for the purposes of continuously improving the English program, including an annual surveyContribute to English Service Map by adding information about new or changing English service providers that might be of benefit to people seeking asylum.Escalate internal referrals to Line Manager when students require support beyond their language needsMeet regularly with Line Manager providing quality, timely updatesPromptly raise any concerns pertaining to client or teacher welfare with Line ManagerOther as reasonably requested by Line Manager.Selection Criteria :

Experience in working with people from various backgrounds and cultures.Ability to work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers. Strong organisational and time management skills.Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.Experience of the Education sector, with strong understanding of the needs of adult and second language learnersFunctional IT skills such as use of email and word processingAbility to lead a group of volunteers, providing support and guidance as needed.Ability to adhere to policies in relation to code of conduct, boundaries and confidentiality.
