The Position
The primary objective of this role is to develop, implement, coach & monitor a coherent & structured approach for literacy teaching & learning (reading, writing, spelling, speaking & listening) in the Early Learning Centre (ELC) (Prep - Year 1) & Primary School (Years 2-5). The role will also be responsible for developing comprehensive literacy programs that align with the Victorian Curriculum, enhances student outcomes & meets the needs of diverse learners.
This role is a part-time role (0.40 to 0.50 FTE), commencing at the beginning of the 2025 school year.
Duties and Responsibilities Leading Literacy Programs Build a scope and sequence and implement best practice research-based Literacy programs and policies in accordance with Cultures of Thinking and Reggio Emilia Approach pedagogyCollaborate with teachers and model literacy strategies to embed in pedagogical practicesEnsure that programs are reviewed to stay abreast of current educational practices and thinkingLead and manage Literacy assessment and reporting and dataEnsure assessment is rigorous and that teachers have strategies and models for collection and analysis of data in reading, writing and language conventions (including spelling)Monitoring, evaluation and review of Literacy Programs Monitor, evaluate and review Prep to Year 5 literacy programs through data analysis, student assessments and teacher feedbackConduct an annual Literacy Review on the basis of data from Standardised testing (PAT, NAPLAN, Common Assessment. Tasks, Running Records) updating and keeping the Literacy Program current.Develop and maintain a detailed knowledge of the Victorian CurriculumLead, audit and review mapping of Literacy Curriculum on ATLAS and train teachers to use ATLAS to map Literacy CurriculumCoaching Be a positive role model and be an exemplary teacherCreate a climate which enables other staff to develop and maintain positive attitudes towards high standards of literacy, and manage change effectively based on Bialik valuesCreate and lead a schedule that allows for regular one to one and group coaching sessions, focusing on enhancing literacy instructionSupport teachers in setting and achieving professional goals related to literacyMeet with teachers to plan and monitor student literacy needs using assessment data and teacher observations.Oversee appropriate home learning regimensRole Requirements Possess a teaching diploma/degree along with a relevant tertiary qualification and be qualified and experienced in primary school educationPossess demonstrable school leadership experience and a proven record in the initiation of innovative programs in LiteracyHold a current registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT)Benefits Permanent full-time staff entitled to a 25% school fee discount for their children (Kindergarten to Year 12).
