About the Opportunity With an exciting pipeline of future work for the Australian Defence Force at the Henderson Shipyard, now is the time to join a dynamic and outcome focused team and be part of the continuous naval shipbuilding program for the Australian Defence.
This role is responsible for managing day-to-day engineering operations, fostering a collaborative team environment, driving technical excellence, and ensuring suitably trained and qualified personnel are deployed into project teams as required.
The Engineering Manager will also contribute to planning, technical decision-making, and career development of team members.
Key responsibilities include: Lead the engineering team to ensure deliverables meet schedules, cost, and quality expectations.Engage in tactical planning activities with other function leaders to ensure objectives and priorities are aligned.Proactively identify project risks and technical challenges, and work with the team to develop mitigation strategies.Strong focus on the support system requirements and CM deliverables and ensure the teams are working cohesively to deliver those products.Build and nurture high-performing teams by fostering a positive, inclusive environment where individuals feel valued, supported, and empowered to grow, collaborate, and excel. Due to the Security Clearance required for this position, applicants must be an Australian Citizen and eligible to obtain and uphold a Baseline Security Clearance through the Australian Department of Defence. Essential Bachelor degree in Engineering or related field5-8+ years leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams.Strong safety focus and ability to be proactive in identifying areas for improvement.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues with a strong resolution focus.Excellent interpersonal skills to foster cohesive partnerships with other line managers, direct reports and key stakeholders.Be an empathetic leader who can balance compassion with tough decision-making.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrated capacity to effectively give and receive constructive feedback.Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities.
