About the Role At ROLLER, Engineering Managers are a new role with the opportunity to help shape the future of engineering. Our Product Team is split into several squads and as part of this role, you will manage the Engineers and QA members of two or three squads, driving collaboration across teams to create a fun and engaging environment. Working closely with Tech Leads, you'll foster a high-performing culture and ensure an outstanding developer experience.

This role gives you the flexibility to adopt a hybrid work approach, maintaining a true work/life balance. This includes working in our centrally located South Melbourne office 3 days per week and having the option to work from home outside of these days.
What You'll Do Lead and Mentor: Guide, coach and develop a team of Engineers and QA members, fostering a productive work environment. Set clear goals, provide regular feedback, and support your team's professional growth. Initiatives: Work closely with the Tech Leads and VP of Engineering to pursue improved processes, team effectiveness and developer experience. Talent Acquisition: Partner with the Talent Acquisition team to attract and hire top tech talent while building awareness of ROLLER in the development community. Performance Management: Conduct regular 1:1s and oversee the completion of performance reviews, offering clear feedback and opportunities for professional development. Resource Alignment: Compare priorities across squads to ensure alignment with higher-level goals, reallocating resources if needed. Technical Leadership: Stay informed about the infrastructure, architecture and codebase. Engage in technical discussions and, where necessary, get on the tools to stay up to date. About You Experienced Leader: You have a proven track record in people management and team leadership, with experience in mentoring and developing Engineering Teams. Hands-On: Strong technical background, with experience in building and running scalable backend systems. Familiarity with Agile methodologies and modern software development practices is essential. Strong Communicator: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You can clearly articulate complex ideas, advocate for your team, present to wider audiences and are comfortable having hard conversations. Passionate & Driven: You are self-motivated, adaptable and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Your enthusiasm for tech and team leadership drives you to continuously improve and inspire those around you. Interview with the VP of Engineering: You'll get to meet with the VP of Engineering to learn more about the role & ROLLER whilst also talking through your experience in more detail. Live Coding Challenge: You'll meet with one of our talented Engineers who will take you through a live coding challenge to better understand your coding skills and knowledge. Loop Interviews: This is where you will get to meet our wider ROLLER team to do a 'vibe check' on us to make sure our culture & vibe meet what you are looking for!
