About the role As the Engineering Lead, you'll play a crucial leadership role within our Digital team, managing cross-functional squads to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
You'll inspire and empower a talented engineering team, supporting their career growth and fostering a culture of technical excellence.
Working closely with Product Owners and other stakeholders, you'll help shape priorities, resolve dependencies, and ensure timely project delivery.
This role also involves technical oversight, stakeholder management, and ensuring alignment on best engineering practices across squads.

This role is based out of our Chadstone Support Office in Melbourne with work from the office for at least 2 days a week.

Key Responsibilities People Leadership: Manage, mentor, and support a team of engineers, promoting high performance and career growth.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Liaise with Product Owners, architects, and other chapter leads to align priorities and resolve cross-functional dependencies.
Technical Oversight: Ensure engineering standards are maintained, provide input on key technical decisions, and enhance overall platform health.
Continuous Improvement: Drive process improvements, maintain secure coding practices and manage incident response for uninterrupted website and app functionality.
Strategic Contribution: Support roadmap planning, platform health initiatives, and lead high-level estimates for major projects.
About you Skills & Experience
Experience: 15+ years in IT with a focus on building cloud-native web solutions, including 5+ years leading engineering teams.
Proven experience managing cross-functional squads and working with offshore teams is a bonus.
Roadmap Planning: Strong experience in collaborating with product owners and chapter leads to define technical platform health roadmap, prioritize, and be a strong advocate for continuous improvements.
Agile Methodology: Comfortable working within agile frameworks, collaborating closely with product owners and other stakeholders to support effective, efficient delivery of business initiatives including continuous platform uplift.
Process Improvements: Passionate about streamlining ways of working workflows and embedding engineering best practices to optimize code quality, cross-team code contribution models, automated testing, seamless production deployments and website operational health.
Mentorship & Team Growth: Skilled in developing engineers at all levels, from coaching tech leads to supporting the growth of junior engineers.
You know how to create a supportive, high-performing team culture that encourages learning and innovation.
Stakeholder Communication: Effective communicator, capable of translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and aligning technical decisions with business goals.
Operational Excellence & Incident Management: Proactive in managing tech debt, addressing systemic platform issues, coordinating high-priority incidents, embedding on-call culture, and driving incident resolution to ensure systems stability and customer satisfaction.
