About this exciting opportunityJoining AIMS as an Engineering Intern will see you responsible for systems engineering activities of assigned ReefScan robotic/autonomous/sensor system elements that support the operationalisation of a range of technology projects including underwater and surface survey platforms and the sensors they carry. You will contribute to the development, testing and support of autonomous vessels and sensor collection systems through the design, development, build, test and support of elements of the systems.
The overall goal in this role is to develop new survey platforms, including underwater towed, remotely operated and fully autonomous platforms, which can operate around complex environments such as coral reefs.
About youYou will be a student who is (or are about to) complete your 3rd year of a Bachelor of Engineering degree from an Australian institution in Electrical, Electronics, Software, Robotics, Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering (or an associated field). You will have a demonstrated ability of working within multi-discipline small technical teams and ideally have practical experience in developing and building small scale electronics / mechanical projects and associated skills in design, construction, integration and assembly.
Having experience with, or exposure to additive manufacturing systems (3D printing) and CAD design software (with a preference for Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks) and embedded software design and programming relevant to robotics and autonomous systems with a preference for Python or C and experience with embedded Linux computer systems would be highly regarded.
