This role is being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing, with the employment type to be determined in negotiation with the preferred candidate and the NIAA delegate.

Where a non-ongoing specified term is offered, this would be for an initial period of up to 12 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum period of two years.
A non-ongoing offer may result in conversion to an ongoing offer of employment, however this must occur within 18 months from the opening date of this advertisement.

The Opportunity

The Engagement Senior Officer position plays a pivotal role supporting the NIAA to work in genuine partnership and enable self-determination of First Nations Communities.
The job is crucial in building collaborative relationships with First Nations people and communities to ensure effective policy implementation that aligns to aspirations of First Nations communities.
Delivering high-quality services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, through effective management of daily activities and collaborative leadership are critical to the success of the role.

By fostering strong internal and external relationships, especially with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders, and providing expert guidance and constructive feedback, they contribute to business improvement and uphold a healthy, ethical workplace aligned with APS standards.

This role is essential for ensuring high-quality service delivery and successful project execution within the branch, benefiting both the team and the communities they serve.

Provide leadership and supervision to achieve South Queensland Region (SQR) and any of the three subregional (Rockhampton, Toowoomba, or Brisbane) outcomes and the NIAA's broader strategic directions for its stakeholders, providers, and partners by:

establishing clear work expectations, systems, and processespromoting a supportive and positive working environment, providing regular feedback and mentoringencouraging and supporting ongoing learning and development opportunities including identification of training needsidentifying talent within the three subregional offices, providing opportunities for staff to stretch their abilities and develop new skillsaddressing individual performance and competency using the NIAA Engage Frameworkmodeling responsibility for personal performance by using an Engagement on a Page that has been formally completed and recorded online.
Work travel is required as part of the Engagement Senior Officer role.
Additional travel to other NIAA sites across the network including Canberra may be required.
A current Driver's license is essential.

The South Queensland Region (SQR), which encompasses offices in Rockhampton, Toowoomba, and Brisbane, is seeking four Engagement Senior Officers who will support strategic initiatives to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across SQR.
These roles involve overseeing program delivery, fostering partnerships, and supporting place-based program and policy implementation to ensure that community needs and aspirations are met through effective and culturally responsive service delivery.
The position is integral to implementing strategies that support place-based, local, and regional decision-making, enabling communities to have a voice in the policies and programs that affect them.

These roles include the following duties and are expected to be conducted with a broad degree of self-direction:
contributing to a culture that aligns with the NIAA values and fosters high-performing teams dedicated to achieving quality program outcomesplanning and coordinating the team's workflow to ensure even distribution and management of prioritieseffectively monitoring and reporting on the subregional office project performance and workloadimplementing remedial action as required to ensure performance indicators are met and quality is maintainedundertaking reviews using internal quality assurance and continuous improvement processesidentifying opportunities to enhance team performance in an environment of collaboration, continuous improvement, and changeproviding technical and operational guidance and direction for IAS funded activities and inquiries from across the respective subregional officeanalyzing and responding to high-level technical enquiries and complaints with some complexityapplying sound judgement and making evidence-based decisions that align with the organisational operating environment and legislative frameworkschairing and facilitating forums within the subregional office and SQR, using approved NIAA governance processesrepresenting the subregional office and contributing to building productive relationships and inclusive networks through collaboration with providers, partners, and stakeholders to resolve issues and realise agreed outcomes. This position is Identified, which signifies that the role has strong involvement in matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This position is required to liaise with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and service providers.
You will require cultural competency, including:
understanding of the matters impacting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoplesdemonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoplesdemonstrated capability and commitment to continue to develop cultural competency Eligibility
