This role is being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing, with the employment type to be determined in negotiation with the preferred candidate and the NIAA delegate.

Where a non-ongoing specified term is offered, this would be for an initial period of up to 12 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum period of two years.

A non-ongoing offer may result in conversion to an ongoing offer of employment, however this must occur within 18 months from the opening date of this advertisement.

We're excited to announce the opportunity for an Engagement Director within our Top End Tiwi Islands team.

As an Engagement Director in one of our Top End Tiwi Islands team, you'll have the unique opportunity to:

work directly with communities, including key senior leaders and local service providersdrive outcomes that align with the aspirations of communities and lead staff to deliver the NIAA's work program within the Agency's Key Performance Measures and quality indicatorsresearch, analyse and develop community activities, procedures or programs, informing their policy, requiring a detailed analysis of diverse data and views where there are a range of viable optionsexcellent stakeholder engagement skills, effectively managing relationships with internal and external partners, individuals and service providers and promote the NIAA's business objectives through key strategic relationshipscreate a culturally safe workplace by fostering an environment where the concept of culture, and how it influences the workplace, is understoodguide the implementation of culturally appropriate strategies for working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Our Ideal candidate is a leader with a strong focus on the Darwin/Tiwi Islands region and can demonstrate the following skills and attributes:
builds a culture that aligns with NIAA values and Behavioursleads and provides support to a team to deliver the work programs of sub-regions within the Top End and Tiwi Islands region including stakeholder visitssupports budget, business, risk and quality assurance planning processes using the appropriate NIAA Frameworksmaintains and influences strong stakeholder partnerships with a broad range of stakeholders including First Nations peoples, community partners, business and organisations and engage and manage stakeholder expectations of the NIAA work program, priorities and program change giving particular consideration to local and cultural sensitivities and stakeholder business imperativesrepresents and negotiates on behalf of the NIAA to advance the Agency's interests in cross agency forums.
Liaise with the wider government agencies using a portfolio management approach to discussion and negotiation to ensure that wider Whole of Government priorities are achievedprovides a strategic level of specialist, professional and/or technical expertise and advice to the NIAA Executive.
Leverage the expert skills and knowledge of staffcommunicates effectively and makes decisions that may have significant impact on the day-to-day operation of the branch and other parts of the Agency; and/or a direct and significant impact on the outcome of a program or major project for the Agency. This position has direct engagement with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and service providers, or is involved in the development of programmes and policy.
You will require a high level of cultural competency, including:
demonstrated understanding of the matters impacting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.demonstrated high level ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.demonstrated high level capability and commitment to continue to develop cultural competency. The successful candidate will be required to be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check.
