About Yallourn
The Yallourn Power Station is a 1480Mw base load generating brown coal fired plant based in Yallourn Victoria on the traditional lands of the Gunaikurnai people and is part of the diversified range of EnergyAustralia energy assets.
Yallourn supplies approximately 22% of Victoria's electricity needs, approximately 8% of the National Electricity Market (NEM); enough to supply around two million homes.
The site is located 130kms east of Melbourne, in an area renowned for natural beauty, access to Melbourne and a full range of modern services and infrastructure.
Yallourn has announced its closure date of June 2028.
The role
The Plant Operator/Unit Controller is an experienced plant and control room operator of generation plant including Boiler, Turbo-Generator and ancillary services, across the 4 units of generation.
In addition to control room operating responsibilities, the role provides technical advice and takes a lead role in addressing operational technical issues.
The Plant Operator/Unit Controller is responsible for a range of operating duties including:
Management of Unit output to meet agreed production, environmental, AEMO and maintenance requirements through consultation and cooperation HV electrical switching and earthing Dealing with issues and problems through effective communications with key company stakeholders Play an active role in ensuring that the standards of operating practice and inter-team communications and on-job behaviour are maintained Personal leadership by example in the adherence to standards of operating practice and personal behaviour Ownership of a designated area of plant under the 'systems responsibilities' program which may mean involvement in project and outage duties Operating within the Permit to Work system creating and issuing safety documents to enable safe access for maintenance purposes What we're looking for
Experience in operating generation plants and dealing with production events High Risk Advanced Boiler Licence (or equivalent) and/or High Risk Turbine Licence (or equivalent) Experience with Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) Safety documents and procedures Commitment to working in, and having a positive contribution to the team environment Experience with aging plant a definite advantage Experience in Plant Outage Coordination desirable A proven commitment to working within Health and Safety guidelines Please note
This is 2x12 hour shift work (day and night) covered under our site EBA All successful candidates will undergo in-house training as part of an extensive on-boarding process There is an expectation that the successful candidate will move from Assistant Unit Controller to Unit Controller How to apply
