By choosing a career with us, you can expect a challenging and fulfilling role surrounded by people who are passionate and have brilliant ideas about sustainable technology, innovation and making the world a better place.The position: Energy Storage Engineer (APAC) – Sydney basedSummary: The main purpose of this role is to take the lead on developing techno-economical models, engagement with suppliers, understanding use cases and revenue models for energy storage, collaborating with the technical teams, procurement, tender and contracts but also regional sales organization and the finance teams in support of Lightsource bp's objectives.You will have the opportunity to lead technical storage solutions development for Lightsource bp across Australia and support EMEA region punctually. You will need to be up to date with current storage technologies, PV control systems, and the modeling of output energy based on various storage applications including revenue modeling and dispatch strategies.Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelop and manage energy storage + PV solutions, including technical due diligence in coordination with the full team.Maintain close and regular contacts with battery OEMs, PCS OEMs and System Integrators to understand the latest technology offerings, pricing, warranties, degradation, and other technical and commercial details.Interface with business development and power marketing team representatives to evaluate customer needs under current and anticipated site conditions.Provide preliminary Energy Storage designs (standalone, collocated and hybrid), including technical specifications for EPC RFP documents.Review any EPC-provided BESS designs to ensure the proposed systems are in line with each project's needs and requirements as well as financial expectations.Provide a technical and commercial interface with Independent Engineers, including 3rd party reports as they relate to BESS projects.Work with a multi-disciplinary team including business development and project finance to ensure quality financial modelling inputs and techno-economic analysis.What we're looking forEducation and QualificationB.S. in Engineering (Mechanical, Materials or Electrical preferred) or equivalent; advanced degree a plus.KnowledgeMS Office experience with strong Excel, PowerPoint and Word skills preferred.Experience in technical modeling in PowerBI, Excel, Excel VBA, Python preferred.ExperiencePrevious experience working and studying intermittent resources such as wind-energy or solar resources or an electric utility is preferred but not required.At least 2 years in the BESS sector in a technical role related with product and project due diligence. Familiarity with the regulatory and market requirements in Australia is preferred.Previous experience in BESS in Europe or US is preferred for benchmark and to bring lessons learned from other markets.Previous experience in the BESS sector in APAC (for example in Taiwan and South Korea) is preferred.Strong analytical skillsStrategic thinking abilitiesOrganizational behaviorExcellent communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of staff throughout the organization, and unaffiliated third partiesStrong team player with the ability to collaborate with international teams.Fluency in English is essential.
