As we continue to support our growing and evolving teams across Australia and New Zealand, we're excited to invite an Employment and Industrial Relations Lawyer to join our People & Education (HR) team.
We are looking for someone who thrives in the trenches, not just in the strategy room.
If you're an experienced employment lawyer who is ready to roll up their sleeves and make an impact, this is the role for you.

The Role You Could Play Reporting to MECCA's Head of Workplace Relations, you'll be a driving force in bringing our workplace relations strategy to life across our Australian and New Zealand teams.
In the Workplace Relations team, we don't just talk about solutions – we help implement them.
You'll lead and contribute to critical projects, balancing legal compliance with practical solutions that align with MECCA's strategic goals.

Every day will be different.
As a key member of the Workplace Relations team, you'll be responsible for helping to maintain MECCA's suite of employment contracts, keep our team member policies fresh and progressive, and create and present engaging training for our teams across Australia and New Zealand on best practice workplace relations.
You will support with Award interpretation and implementation, provide industrial relations know-how and strategy, and give practical and strategic legal advice in relation to individual team member matters.

You will provide advice covering diverse matters relating to employee and industrial relations.
You will balance legal strategy with risk mitigation, strategic focus, and practical implementation.
You will also contribute to a strategic plan and proactively lead projects to implement change across MECCA.

What You Will Bring We are looking for a passionate employment and industrial relations lawyer, with deep subject-matter knowledge in the Australian landscape (bonus points for experience with New Zealand).

It's not just about knowing the subject matter and advising (although that's super important).
It's also about being solutions-focused, taking action, and implementing change.

You will be willing to roll up your sleeves and work side-by-side with managers and support teams to workshop options, test solutions, implement outcomes, manage change, and improve our processes.

You'll also have: Education: You will hold a Bachelor of Laws or a Juris Doctor.
You will be admitted to practice as a solicitor. Hands-on experience: You will have at least four years' experience in-house and/or in private practice in the employment and industrial relations fields, and you've demonstrated success in driving projects, managing change, and executing strategies. Communication: You can break down complex issues into clear, actionable steps and deliver training and advice in an engaging way. Trusted advisor: You're not just a solicitor – you lead projects, roll out change initiatives, and get people on board to make it happen. Problem-solving skills: You get to the heart of an issue fast and can think outside the box to propose actionable solutions. Practical expertise: A passion for getting things done and implementing solutions, not just advising from the sidelines. Collaborative mindset: A true team player who thrives on working closely with others to tackle problems, test ideas, and refine processes. What you'll do day-to-day: Leading hands-on, end-to-end projects that deliver real change for MECCA and our team members. Engaging with HR managers and stakeholders to co-create, test, and implement workplace relations solutions that drive business success. Translating complex legal matters into clear, actionable guidance that balances compliance with practical application. Maintaining and bolstering our suite of employment contract templates and team member policies to ensure we're up-to-date with best practice and updates to the law. Designing and delivering dynamic, engaging training programs to ensure the HR team and managers are aligned with best practices. Proactively managing competing deadlines, all while delivering high-impact results. Leading the charge on compliance changes – and ensuring they stick through practical implementation and follow-through. Your Life At MECCA Whilst we are singularly focused on our #CustomerFirst mantra, we know that wouldn't be possible without an incredible team that is guided by our MECCA values and motivated each and every day to be solutions-focused, innovative, collaborative and adaptable, and have a bit of fun along the way!

Some of our other team member benefits include:

Professional development programs and first-class digitised learning offering Health and well-being initiatives Reward and recognition programs Access to bonus and incentive programs Access to quarterly product allowance Up to 40% discount Benefits are subject to company policy, as updated from time to time. Fast forward to today, and we have almost 5,000 MECCA team members across 100+ retail stores throughout Australia and New Zealand, a rapidly growing online business, two Distribution Centres, and a bustling Support Centre in the heart of Melbourne working to deliver on our purpose every single day.
