Job Summary Bechtel is seeking an experienced Employee Relations Representative to join our Project team, based in Brisbane, QLD. Bechtel's IR / ER (Workforce Services) function is comprised of several functions including, Employee and Industrial Relations, professional craft recruitment, transport, camp management, site access control (security) and professional craft training. We seek to optimise our professional craft performance whilst minimising industrial risk.
Currently Bechtel is in pre-execution planning stages for a number of projects, and the successful applicant will have demonstrated capability in supporting to the strategies and plans to enable successful workforce mobilisation and engagement during construction execution.
The role reports into the Employee Relations Manager is principally responsible for employee relations, however, has influence across the other disciplines of the Workforce Services function, working closely with Construction to support the implementation of the broader Workforce Services strategy.
Major Responsibilities:  Contribute to the development of strategies and plans related to Workforce Services matters, including the development of strategies for Workforce Services functions listed above in this position summary. Works as part of a team to develop industrial and employee relations and communication systems to support an effective workforce on an industrial construction site. Proactive provision of advice and instruction (training) to Project professionals (staff) and craft professional (workforce) personnel in relation to workforce services matters, ultimately, working with supervision and professional craft performing work on the project to ensure consistency. Assists the development of field training programs for professional craft employees and their supervisors. Develops and/or adapts existing training programs to cover specific working conditions, covering topics such as Workforce Services, dispute resolution, Project Work Rules awareness, diversity, working respectfully and other relevant procedures to support the Projects objectives. Responsible for implementing improvement of worker services programs at the site. Works with union representatives and subcontractors to form process improvement initiatives. Other tasks as designated by the Workforce Services Manager.  Education and Experience Requirements: Tertiary qualifications related to human resource management/industrial relations whilst highly regarded for this role. Previous experience in an employee relations leadership role on a construction project will also be highly regarded. Required Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge and experience in the operation of remote 'major project' personnel logistics operations, inclusive of Workforce recruitment and mobilisation processes, ground and air transportation, project accommodation facilities, workforce training and upskilling, site access and security and general Employee Relations and Industrial Relations management. Five to Seven years of experience performing employee or industrial relations management, human resources, or similar functions in a construction company, EPC, or similar industry. Experience and demonstrated success in human resources, industrial or employee relations, Workforce Services type roles on a construction site. Proven ability to build collaborative relationships across all functions, deliver on Project objectives and implement key programs on time and within budget. Good analytical and strategic planning skills: able to prioritize, pivot and respond to conflicting priorities. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient use of Microsoft Office software. Working Rights in Australia without employer sponsorship are required.
