Kestrel is one of the world's largest producing underground coking, or metallurgical coal mines and produces around 7 million tonnes of metallurgical coal annually. Our coal is shipped to key markets in Asia and Europe to be used in the steel making process. The mine is located in the Bowen Basin, approximately 40km Northeast of Emerald in Central QLD. Our team's capability covers the entire mining process, from development to extraction and processing, environmental management and sustainable rehabilitation. We have an approved life of mine until 2033 and reserves to 2046 with the potential to increase further. About the opportunity We currently have an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled Medical Emergency Officer to join the Kestrel Coal team based at our mine site located just outside of Emerald in Central Queensland. This is a residential opportunity working a 7/7 rotating day and night roster. As an integral member of the HST team, in this role you will primarily be responsible for providing emergency first response to all incidents on site. In this role, your primary responsibility will be to respond quickly and effectively to medical emergencies and incidents involving personnel at Kestrel Mine, including providing patient care and triage. In addition, other duties essential for maintaining readiness include: Conducting daily checks on ambulance equipment, updating equipment registers, and ensuring all items are stocked and compliant. Performing daily pre-start checks on the ambulance and Kestrel emergency vehicle, cleaning interiors and exteriors, and refuelling as needed. Conducting handovers with the incoming Officer Medical Emergency for the QH28 register (controlled drug register), safe/vehicle keys, and shift reports. Performing checks and restocking of trauma boxes, manage tags and security stickers, updating trauma box and drug registers. Inspecting AEDs, first aid kits, eyewash stations, and Diphoterine, restocking and replacing as necessary. Conducting inventory counts on medical emergency equipment, obtaining quotes, raising purchase orders, and restocking upon receipt. Performing checks and ensure compliance for controlled drugs, restocking as required. Conducting inspections of trauma boxes and first aid kits underground to ensure compliance. Assisting in the development and training of new Officers Medical Emergency by providing on-the-job training. Leading projects related to emergency care as directed, such as updating procedures, training materials, and patient care records. Organising and facilitating external representatives for annual biomedical equipment checks. Assisting First Responders and EMTs as required to enhance emergency response capabilities, including informal training, clinic and equipment familiarisation, and mentorship. Creating and maintaining medical records for personnel.

Ancillary duties for this role to support the broader HST function include: Monitoring, managing and responding to fatigue alerts for workers exceeding hours on-site. Assisting with reviewing and approving Health Assessments. Conducting hearing and respiratory fit testing for coal mine workers, uploading compliance documentation and maintaining accurate records. Performing random drug and alcohol testing, and organising the calibration of breathalysers. Recording, counting and entering data for Take 5s, safety interactions, 'find it, fix it' activities and fit testing as applicable.

About you: Nationally accredited qualification in Paramedicine or Nursing (e.g., Advanced Diploma of Paramedical Science or Bachelor of Nursing). Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Competency in HTPAT005 – Collect specimens for drugs of abuse testing. A current Queensland manual C Class driver's license. Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar role in a mining or heavy industry environment. Detailed knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and regulations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to read, analyse and report information effectively. Ability to resolve problems with a level of decision making. Strong software skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience in workers compensation and injury management (desirable). Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (desirable).
