St John Ambulance Australia (NT) Inc. is contracted by the Northern Territory (NT) Government to operate the Ambulance Service for the NT in Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs, and Nhulunbuy.
To ensure the appropriate deployment of resources to provide emergency and non-emergency care to our community, we rely on Triple Zero (000) Call-takers and Dispatchers, known as Emergency Medical Dispatchers (EMD's).
An EMD is required to receive emergency Triple Zero (000) and non-emergency calls, assess a patient's condition, provide essential pre-arrival instruction, dispatch St John NT resources, and coordinate patient transport movements, to ensure the highest standards of patient care are maintained in accordance with operational procedures.
The role requires resilience, attention to detail in a technical environment, and the ability to multitask under pressure.
As an EMD you will commence employment as a Trainee, where you will be provided training and on-the-job mentoring to attain the HLT31020– Certificate III Ambulance Communications (Call-taking).
Further training is provided to progress to dispatch duties, through attainment of the HLT41020 - Certificate IV Ambulance Communications (Dispatch).
All Training courses are delivered in partnership with St John Ambulance Australia Ltd. RTO 88041.
EMDs are required to work 12-hour shifts, on a 4/4 roster (two-day shifts, two-night shifts, four days off) and are compensated with an attractive salary and ten weeks' annual leave.
