About The Role In a global landscape driven by innovation in energy use and storage, Tritium leads in the design, manufacture, and distribution of fast charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. Building on past successes, the company is now hiring an Electronics / Mechatronics Engineer to report directly to the Head of Sustaining Engineering as part of the Sustaining Engineering team in Murarrie, Brisbane.
You will ensure the reliability of our products in the field and optimise production efficiency across global manufacturing facilities. Your role will focus on sustaining and enhancing the performance of our products through engineering support and continuous improvement initiatives.
The Electronics / Mechatronics Engineer's core responsibility is to deliver comprehensive lifecycle solutions, including the design, development, and verification of electronic / electro-mechanical systems such as product communication and power control electronics, compliance testing, and field servicing. You will manage requirements gathering, design PCB components and assemblies, and create PCBA schematics, assembly drawings, and specifications, overseeing the entire process from concept to production build, field installation, and servicing.
As the Design Responsible Engineer (DRE), you will own assigned control electronic / electro-mechanical systems and commodities, ensuring all design solutions follow Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Serviceability (DFS) principles, in consultation with respective Module Leader(s). You'll also optimise these systems through cross functional collaboration with suppliers, manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Validation, and Certification to ensure compatibility across products.
To Be Successful In This Role You will need a strong foundation in electronics engineering, with proven experience managing complex projects from concept to completion. Proficiency in DFM/DFA/DFS principles, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines are essential. Experience in fast-paced, innovative environments, along with the ability to balance competing priorities, will set you apart.
Problem Solving & Solution Implementation Investigate and resolve assigned production and field-related non-conformances (NCR). Solve complex problems independently, utilising methods like failure-mode analysis (FMEA) and 8D root cause analysis (RCA) reporting. Lead assigned continuous improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to deliver value-added and value engineering (VAVE) solutions. Design & Development Design and develop electronic / mechatronic components and systems for EV charging technology. Ensure backward compatibility, standardisation, and the seamless integration of electronic components into products by applying DFM/DFA/DFS principles from an electro-mechanical perspective. Liaise with industry partners, suppliers and experts to ensure designs and components selection align with functional requirements, reliability targets and operational KPIs. Prototype and develop complete solutions, including simulations, modelling, Lab testing and field trials (in real-time). Conduct hands-on verification and validation testing and generate supporting documentation. Develop and maintain spare part / service kits to sustain product uptime and clear to build performances. Documentation & Compliance Gather and record product design requirements to ensure solutions are developed according to customer and compliance standards. Implement product changes and new features requests into production and field installation via the organisation's engineering change management (ECM) system. Stay updated on engineering and regulatory standards, including UL, CSA, IEC, and CE, and assist with compliance lab testing and reporting, compilation of change notification packs, including bills of materials (BOM) to support certification/re-certification initiatives. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with Senior Engineers to develop and improve power control electronic components and systems, ranging from 3kW to 500kW. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve electronic issues in high-powered equipment through the practice of failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA). Collaborate with Software and Firmware Engineers to ensure complete implementation of requirements. Release solutions into Operations via Change Management Control processes. Become the SME for stakeholders to ensure transparency & alignment with requirements. Actively participate in meetings, providing technical information and keeping accurate notes for assigned tasks. About You Education: Degree in Electronic Engineering or Mechatronics, with 3-5 years of experience. Technical Skills Experience in electronic product development in areas of device control, communications technology, Human Machine Interfaces and Displays etc. Detailed electronics PCBA hardware design. Proficiency in ALTIUM, LTSPICE, and project planning tools (e.g., JIRA). Experience with power conversion, high power/current systems, and precision electronics. Proficient in the application of DFM/DFA/DFS principles. Proficient in the application of both design and process FMEA. Knowledge of EMC design requirements & testing standards. Experienced in the compilation of compliance documentation and reporting. Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, C++, Java, and/or MATLAB. Soft Skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail, analytical problem-solving, and ability to work independently as well as across disciplines and departments. Highly motivated and enthusiastic, with the ability to work under pressure and time constraints. Highly Desirable Project Engineering experience and strong sense of product/project ownership. Proficiency in project planning tools (e.g., JIRA, MS Project). Experience with EMC test equipment and firmware development for 32-bit ARM micro-controllers (with and without RTOS). Knowledge of power electronics, including rectifier circuits, IGBT, MOSFET, and power conversion devices. Power systems related documentation for building and site installation of products. Proficient in applying mechanical design and development principles. Skilled in using computer-aided design (CAD) and PLM tools, such as SolidWorks and Windchill. Knowledgeable in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T). Familiar with Drafting Standards, such as AS 1100. Experienced in designing jigs, fixtures, and tooling to ensure manufacturability.
