The Department of Parliamentary Services provides support to all Members of Parliament for the recruitment and selection of their staff. On behalf of Trung Luu Member for Western Victoria, we are now recruiting for a Full Time Fixed Term Electorate Officer (Grade 3).
Electorate OfficerTRUNG LUU MEMBER FOR WESTERN VICTORIA Fixed-term, full time, 12 month opportunityAbout the RoleElectorate Officers play an important role in providing services to the Victorian community. Reporting to the Member of Parliament that nominates you, your work will require a high degree of trust and integrity. Confidentiality is also a key requirement when interacting with constituents and visitors to the office or in the community.
Based in the Member of Parliament's electorate office, you will interact daily with constituents, community organisations, and other stakeholders. Key responsibilities include:
Media and stakeholder engagementParliamentary dutiesPrepare speaking notes and speeches for the MemberUnder Section 30 of the Parliamentary Administration Act 2005, Electorate Officers must not perform any party specific activities. Party specific activity means any activity for the dominant purpose of directing how a person should vote at an election, by promoting or opposing the election of any candidate at the election; or a registered political party; or an elected member.
Electorate Officer salaries are set out in the Electorate Officers (Victoria) Single Enterprise Agreement 2021.
Grade 3: $95,433 per annum plus 11.5% employer superannuation.

The role of an Electorate Officer requires you to demonstrate:
High level organisational ability, particularly in determining priorities and work practices, and both supervising and performing a broad range of office support duties, often to tight and demanding deadlines.High level written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated ability to undertake complex research, investigations, and draft reports, submissions, and complex correspondence.High level commitment and ability to provide the highest level of client service in a challenging environment, providing sound advice and maintaining the strictest confidence on all issues.High level of understanding and ability to provide advice and guidance on government and parliamentary processes.In-depth knowledge of traditional and social media landscape and strong relationships with journalists and media outlets; ability to anticipate impact of a rapidly changing external policy and political environment and provide strategic advice.High level stakeholder engagement skills and proven ability to collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders from government and peak organisations to local community organisations and constituents.Experience in leading and supervising a team, demonstrating sound coaching and mentoring skills and respect for the needs of others.Behaviours consistent with Electorate Officer values and Code of Conduct, including the ability to display high levels of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, and respect in relationships with others and decision making.Pre-Employment Screening RequirementsAll appointments are subject to receipt of a satisfactory National Name (Police) Check and Working with Children Check. Successful candidates who do not currently hold a Working with Children Check will be required to obtain a check within 3 months of commencement of employment.
