Litigation & Dispute Resolution (Legal)Government - Federal (Government & Defence)The Legal and Audit Division in the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) is seeking a Principal Legal Officer (EL2) to join the Corporate Legal Branch.The Corporate Legal Branch is a specialist in-house legal practice that supports the department's objectives by advising on the management of legal risks. It comprises a number of teams that provide advice and services in commercial, property, employment, and other corporate law matters. You will be supported to further develop a highly sought-after and transferable skillset.We are looking for candidates who have strong technical legal skills, can communicate clearly and persuasively, can manage competing priorities, enjoy working collaboratively, and have a positive attitude.You will get exposure to a wide variety of interesting and complex legal matters and work closely with legal colleagues across the division in providing advice to the Department.DutiesDeliver strategic, accurate, clear, helpful and timely legal advice and services to departmental clients in commercial, property and/or employment law matters.Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues in Legal and business areas, and with external stakeholders.Supervise, mentor and coach junior staff.Manage, or provide support in managing, a team to ensure delivery of quality legal services.Support leadership of the Branch and Division, including through promoting a positive working environment and contributing.Mandatory RequirementsMust have a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor degree (or equivalent) from a recognised Australian tertiary education provider.Must be admitted as a legal practitioner of the High Court or the Supreme Court of a State or Territory of Australia and must possess, or be eligible to obtain, a practising certificate.NotesThis recruitment process is being used to fill ongoing and/or non-ongoing position/s.
