The Role
The Science International Engagement team manages an extensive international engagement portfolio with countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, Japan and Singapore.
The Director Science International Engagement leads this team of international policy experts who shape, plan and facilitate complex international engagement activities for the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) and the Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator (ASCA) to achieve Defence's Innovation Science and Technology strategic objectives.
This leadership role is foundational in articulating, advocating and implementing the strategic vision and objectives for the Innovation Science and Technology domain.
In order to do this the Director leads the strategic engagement plan and manages the policy relating to Defence international engagement and cooperation proposals relevant to Defence's Innovation Science and Technology needs.
The successful candidate in this position will be required to represent the Innovation Science and Technology portfolio at senior Defence, domestic and international forums being able to articulate the strategy and program details.
This role leads the development and management of the international engagement instruments used to enable timely partnerships. The Director will lead international negotiations in order to achieve the strategic objectives of Defence.
The position will provide informed and timely advice to DSTG's senior executives with regard to cooperation and relationships with foreign governments and organisations. The Director, through the team, is required to coordinate senior overseas visitors from partner nations as well as outbound overseas visits by DSTG's senior executive.

Led by the Chief Defence Scientist, DSTG Australia's second largest research agency with a core annual budget of approximately $700 million and employ approximately 2200 staff, predominantly scientists, engineers, IT specialists and technical staff.
With the national headquarters located in Canberra, our main research facilities are spread across Australia in Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, Brisbane, Sydney and Perth.

The Science International Engagement team consists of twelve international policy experts and is geographically dispersed with staff located at key DSTG sites across Australia.
The directorate works seamlessly with DSTG's overseas representational positions. The directorate is part of the Science Strategy and Planning Division and reports to the Chief Technology Officer Science Strategy, Communications and International Engagement.
