The Senior Specialist, Covert Engineering positions are at the forefront of the ACIC's high-end technical exploitation capabilities, supporting operational requirements through their specialist skills in technology, innovation, and risk management. We are seeking motivated, highly innovative and experienced specialists who can contribute to building and enhancing one of the ACIC's most important covert technical capabilities. The Covert Engineering team is at the forefront of the transition of the ACIC into Australia's leading criminal intelligence agency, and the authority on transnational and serious organised crime.
Senior Specialists within Covert Engineering have the opportunity to contribute to the highly specialised ACIC mission targeting the most sophisticated criminal actors. You will work closely with subject-matter-experts within the agency who will support you in focusing on high-value targets, using innovative, world-first techniques.
Senior Specialists within Covert Engineering work collaboratively within a highly specialised, diverse team who will provide training and mentoring on the ACIC's use and deployment of these capabilities. These positions require a specialist who is capable of working under operational and time pressures. The roles involve a great deal of problem solving, innovation, and up-to-date understanding of the targeting environment. Specialists in Covert Engineering at the ACIC are required to work collaboratively as part of a small and diverse team and to foster strong relationships with counterparts within intelligence agencies, trusted industry partners, and law enforcement.
Key responsibilities: Deploying and managing the operational use of the agency's high-end technical surveillance capabilities in line with relevant legislation and internal policies. Trouble-shooting and problem solving complex technical challenges to support the agency's intelligence and operational outcomes. Working collaboratively with internal and external partners and stakeholders to improve and advance the agency's access to cutting-edge technical solutions. To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following experience, skills, and attributes: Demonstrated experience within STEM technology fields, including but not limited to: Computer networking Computer science Experience and detailed working knowledge of computer hardware/software, mobile operating systems, communication protocols, and mobile/computer networks. Experience deploying collection devices in an operationally sensitive, covert environment against identified collection requirements. Highly developed relationship management skills. Experience applying, and working knowledge of relevant legislation. Experience providing accurate, professional, and expert advice to stakeholders and customers as it relates to operational capabilities and challenges faced when using these capabilities. Ability to identify emerging technologies to assess the impact and implications on the ACIC's ability to covertly deploy surveillance assets. Experience developing awareness, policy, and procedures as they pertain to covert collection and tradecraft. Ability to mentor, guide, and provide training to colleagues to build capability in relation to covert deployment technologies and systems. Works collaboratively in a small team environment and under operational pressures requiring the application of lateral thinking and sound independent judgement whilst reporting to the Covert Engineering Team Leader. Experience liaising with, collaborating, and advancing working relationships to support intra-agency and inter-agency priorities. Ability to actively develop and maintain both domestic and international partnerships. Previous experience in similar roles within intelligence agencies is highly desirable.
