The Knowledge Sharing Team
is accountable for ensuring the latest knowledge and insights learnt from ARENA projects and activities are widely shared with the Australian renewable energy sector and other relevant stakeholders.

We focus on delivering knowledge that energy sector stakeholders need to make informed decisions about their next project, research, investment, policy or regulatory reform.

Within the Knowledge Sharing team, the Policy
sub-team undertakes a range of activities that ensure internal and external stakeholders are kept informed of policy activities and insights relevant to ARENA's Priority Areas, engaging with them to share policy insights and advance solutions to reduce policy and regulatory barriers.
Policy advisers work across ARENA teams and hold a diverse range of energy sector experience.
The functional scope of this team extends to influencing development of government policy, energy regulation and markets, and our target audience is informed industry stakeholders working in the Australian energy sector (e.g.
governments, market bodies, peak industry bodies, consumer advocacy associations, and research institutions).
About the position
The Senior Policy Advisor supports ARENA's engagement in policy impact.
A focus of this position is building and maintaining a close working relationship with relevant officials and staff in each of the Australian government departments and the policy issues they are working on that impact ARENA's strategic priorities.
The Senior Policy Advisor will cultivate existing ties and build new ones with government departments working on policies that would benefit from the knowledge and insights gained from ARENA projects.
They will keep ARENA staff up to date with the policy making projects led by governments and ensure they are cognisant of the lessons and insights our projects have yielded.
A flexible approach to managing competing commitments and close liaison across ARENA's functions and with senior staff are required.
The Senior Policy Advisor position could be located in Canberra, Melbourne or Sydney.
Responsibilities
Keep on top of policy movements in the energy sector, interpret relevance of policy issues to ARENA's objectives and projects, and work with ARENA stakeholders to develop and communicate the organisation's position on issues, including writing public submissions.
Ensure ARENA workers are informed of government-led policy-making projects, and communicate insights gained from projects.
Work within a highly skilled cross-functional team with expertise in business development, strategy, project delivery and knowledge sharing, contributing to ARENA's strategic planning process and supporting the implementation of ARENA's strategy, as it relates to policy impact.
Integrate policy insights into project planning and execution.
Brief executive and ARENA stakeholders on your engagements with senior government, public service and industry stakeholders.
Establish and maintain trusted working relationships within ARENA, as well as with key external industry and government stakeholders.
Knowledge and Experience
Demonstrated experience in policy making in the renewable energy sector or wider Australian energy sector.
Direct work experience in any of the following areas will be highly regarded: emissions reduction and climate change policy, wholesale and retail energy market rules, distributed energy resources and electric vehicles policy or regulation, critical minerals emissions reductions policies.
Demonstrated experience building and maintaining strong working relationships across industry and government.
Experience providing strategic policy knowledge across a range of policy areas relevant to ARENA priorities.
Skills and capabilities

Demonstrated strong communication skills, and the ability to apply different communication techniques to suit the audience.

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) is a Corporate Commonwealth entity.
ARENA's main objective is to improve the competitiveness of renewable energy technologies and increase the supply of renewable energy in Australia.
ARENA was established on 1 July 2012 under the Australian Renewable Energy Agency Act 2011 (the ARENA Act).
ARENA has received significant additional funding over the past 3 budget cycles and is trusted by the Government to deliver many of its most impactful emissions reduction programs.
