Position Overview

The Federal Court of Australia is seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer, who has extensive experience in designing and delivering cloud-based, Microsoft Azure-focused solutions to support our journey into the cloud. You will be a technical lead and trusted advisor, supporting an exciting greenfield transformation and complex modernisation and migration program to evolve IT operations for the Court.

Duties

Reporting to the Cloud Transformation Lead – Digital Court Program, the Senior Cloud Engineer is responsible for the development and delivery of innovative solutions using DevOps and Infrastructure-as-Code methods. The role will be responsible for ensuring solutions are aligned with the Microsoft CAF and WAF, meet compliance with the ASD ISM and broader Whole of Australian Government guidelines and principles. The role will support the rollout of Cloud technologies within the Digital Court Program (DCP), as well as Cloud adoption more broadly across the organisation.

Responsibilities include:


Working with the Cloud Transformation Lead, design and deliver Cloud-related initiatives to support the modernisation and/or migration of legacy and on-premises workloads to the cloud.Provide technical guidance and reviews on the architecture of solutions hosted on Azure, optimising scalability, reliability, operations and performance.Ensure solutions are aligned with vendor and industry best practices, relevant governance, licensing and security requirements.Identify, interpret and communicate meaningful insights, conclusions, cost estimates, workshops, presentations and reports to stakeholders.Act as a point of escalation for other internal teams, such as Infrastructure or Security, for Azure related matters.Proactively seek continuous improvement across cloud services.Technical leadership and mentorship of other engineers, help to build and optimise delivery capability and knowledge sharing.Ability to iterate and work flexibly to ensure that team strategy and focus adapt to suit changing circumstances. Preferred skills and experience Enterprise IT and common Architectural Patterns.On-premises and hybrid cloud architectures and familiarity with migration and modernisation approaches.Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework.Microsoft Well-Architected Framework.Identity and Access Management concepts and solutions.Understanding of Microsoft 365 and associated services would be beneficial but not essential.Common Application Architectures, particularly those that are cloud native.Containerisation and Orchestration tooling and Microservices Architecture.Cloud Security Concepts, Posture Management (CSPM) and Azure Security Services and Baselines. Selection Criteria Proven track record of understanding large, complex environments and navigating senior stakeholders within enterprise or government, both technical and non-technical.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable and robust technical solutions.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders and peers, including the ability to clearly articulate and document complex concepts for a range of audiences.Display a width and depth of technical skills to enable effectiveness in both high and detailed level architecting and solution design.Strong experience with Bicep, Github, PowerShell; DevOps and Infrastructure-as-Code concepts.Demonstrable experience planning for, modernising and migrating workloads to the cloud, at scale. Employment with the Court is subject to the conditions prescribed in the Public Service Act 1999, and the following:
