EL 1 (S&T5) - Senior Technologist Supercomputing Systems$115,899 - $130,733 + up to 15.4% superannuationEdinburgh - SA, Fishermans Bend - VICThe RoleThe Senior Technologist Supercomputing Systems, under limited guidance from management, is a specialist who primarily manages the compute aspects of supercomputers. They are responsible for providing an effective, reliable, high performing and scalable high performance supercomputing platform, which is capable of meeting the specific needs of researchers towards Defence outcomes.This role oversees and conducts the installation and integration of high performance computing systems, clusters, operating systems, and system interfaces. They will report to relevant stakeholders on supercomputing compute system availability, performance and capacity.This position will be required to access US export controlled materiel and therefore applicants will be requested to disclose any and all current or past citizenships or current permanent residencies with another country during the recruitment process. Such dual citizens or permanent residents may be subject to further assessment, and appointment to this position will be conditional upon approval to access US controlled export material in accordance with the USA International Traffic in Arms Regulations: Prohibited Exports, Imports, and Sales to or From Certain Countries, https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-126 . The International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) is the United States regulation that controls the manufacture, sale and distribution of defence and space-related articles and services. The team comprises technology experts who provide a reliable, performant and secure supercomputing capability service that meets current and future needs. Team members work closely with and support user-facing staff who provide value-add service on the supercomputing infrastructure.The Supercomputing Infrastructure Team supports all infrastructure aspects to a researcher's Supercomputing workflow, including supercomputers, high performance storage and scientific visualisation. This enables discovery of new science, processing of vast data sets, and obtaining knowledge from of complex data.Our Ideal CandidateOur ideal candidate has experience undertaking Linux system administration, which includes commissioning and maintaining production systems in a many-user environment. Having this experience within a supercomputing or cloud environment is advantageous. You will be adept on the command line with scripting and automation, supporting reproducible workflows and practices.You will have a can-do attitude, being able to overcome or work around complex issues. You will be able to balance pursuing interesting challenges while maintaining business as usual work. You will know when to use your problem solving skills and when to ask for help, and similarly be able to help others.Being able to physically assist in the data centre is desirable but not essential. This may include moving hardware, re-cabling, and assisting with deliveries and destruction.
