As Project Manager, you are accountable for planning, leadership and management of projects for both acquisition and transition into service of Navy and Army Amphibious Capabilities.


Provide leadership and management of multi-disciplined project teams. Coordinate activities including support to strategic planning, governance functions and human resource management.Manage and lead a team, providing clear, consistent communication. Setting performance and behavioural standards, managing performance, delegating responsibility, guiding and developing people.Management of schedule, risk, budget and resources. Preparation of briefings, submissions and reporting progress and issues.Identify risks and opportunities, accounting for these in planning, decision making and prioritisation.Build and sustain stakeholder engagement, communicating with influence and negotiating effectively.Influence and motivate team members, actively lead group activities.Analyse and interpret project performance against agreed plans. The additional payment is a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP) which enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the rate of salary otherwise payable under the Enterprise Agreement (EA) to some or all of the jobs within a critical occupation(s) or discipline within a workplace. Applicants engaged into a BDCP position must consider the following. BDCPs provide remuneration in addition to the Defence Enterprise Agreement (EA).

This arrangement is subject to meeting eligibility criteria and is subject to annual review. Should your performance fall beyond requirements or the eligibility criteria not be met, your eligibility for the BDCP may be reviewed and ceased. It may also be ceased should you change positions or the requirement for the BDCP is no longer necessary, as determined by Defence. Should the BDCP be ceased you will be advised and your BDCP additional payment will cease.

About our Team
The Hydrographic System Project Office operates within the Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group, as a part of the Maritime Sustainment Division, within the Specialist Systems Branch. HSPO supports Navy Hydrographic and Army Amphibious capabilities. As part of NSSG, HSPO is evolving into the Maritime Sustainment Model (MSM) being progressed under Plan Galileo.

It is a new national, integrated approach that is delivering a continuous sustainment environment to support Continuous Naval Shipbuilding. Our Location HMAS Cairns is the primary Defence establishment in the Cairns Region. It is a Royal Australian Navy base with 900 Australian Defence Force and civilian personnel, and a responsibility extending from Rockhampton in the south to Thursday Island in the north.

Exercise considerable degree of independence and perform a leadership role.Sound decision making and judgement, providing expert policy advice. In-depth knowledge of Project Management function responsible for development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures. Engage in complex problem solving and issues management.Coordinate detailed or sensitive projects impacting on strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence.Plan, lead and manage human and physical resources, exercising the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve business outcomes. Develop and implement work plans, set performance indicators and review individual, team and business performance, identifying opportunities for building team capability and continuous improvement.
