About the Team AFMA is seeking enthusiastic EL 1 Managers in our International Compliance Policy team to assist the Senior Manager International Compliance in managing international fisheries compliance and policy issues. There is both an ongoing role and a non-ongoing role (2 years) role available. The section develops effective and efficient measures, consistent with international agreements to which Australia is a party, aimed at preventing and deterring illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing in the Australian Fishing Zone and in the region. Measures include but are not limited to, providing specialist fisheries advice to other government agencies on monitoring, control, and surveillance (MCS) tools and supporting Australia's international engagement on fisheries matters. The team works closely with AFMA's regional offices and AFMA's Fisheries Management Branch on reporting and providing advice on Australia's ability to implement its international obligations under regional fisheries management organisations. About the Role The primary focus of the Manager, International Compliance Policy is to lead a high performing team that provides high level policy advice on measures to prevent, detect and deter illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing in the Australian Fishing Zone and high seas areas where Australia has an interest. In our team, your primary duties will be: Corporate requirements are completed in a timely manner Communication is regular and effective MCS strategies to deter, prevent and eliminate IUU fishing are effective Agreed outcomes at international meetings on MCS and associated issues are practical and enforceable and in line with Australia's government position Provide policy advice on international compliance operations and programs Provide policy advice and information to the Assistant Minister, and other agencies (including the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry), on IUU fishing issues Advise on development and implementation of international agreements to support AFMA's operations and enforcement Work collaboratively with other agencies in developing and implementing strategies to combat IUU fishing Engage with other countries and entities (such as NGOs) in support of AFMA's foreign operations and enforcement activities Lead, or assist, the development of, tools to support AFMA's foreign operations and enforcement, such as legislation (including legislative instruments), policies and procedures.
