The Role If you have excellent technical legal skills, particularly strong statutory interpretation and legislative development skills, are looking for a 12-month non-ongoing contract or a temporary or permanent transfer, have an NV clearance, and are based in Canberra, this might be the role you have been looking for! Key Duties Consulting with stakeholders across government, industry, civil society, and the university sector.
Developing policy and legislative drafting proposals.
Under limited direction, bringing forward solutions on complex matters and supporting senior leadership.
Working with the Office of Parliamentary Counsel to draft legislative reforms.
Advising on the application of Australian sanctions laws and interpretation of UN Security Council resolutions, including engaging with risk on sensitive, high-profile issues.
Developing and implementing project plans, working in a context of tight timelines and dynamic priorities.
Drafting clear and persuasive advice and policy documents, including briefing Ministers.
Managing regulatory and compliance processes in line with best practice.
Mentoring and developing junior staff.
Acting as EL2 as required.

You will be able to build and maintain complex relationships with key stakeholders including other government agencies, industry, universities, and international counterparts, and, in certain roles, support international negotiations or litigation, and strengthen the multilateral system and bilateral relationships.
You will work with a community of professionals dedicated to the national interest, in a collaborative and inclusive environment.
Legal qualifications are required, and experience in legislative drafting and parliamentary processes are highly desirable.
