The Civil Maritime Sustainment Branch (CMSB) provides the Australian Border Force's (ABF) air and maritime surveillance capability within Australia's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), operating a fleet of vessels crewed by ABF officers who perform strategic patrols, tactical surveillance and on-water law enforcement activities.
CMSB also manages contracted surveillance aircraft, satellite, sensor systems and logistics support to civil maritime operations.
Our ideal Candidate The Inspector, Maritime Communications and Sensor Systems manages a dynamic team that supports ABF vessels and aviation assets' secure communication systems and ensures compliance with various satellite and radio communications suppliers.
We seek experienced leaders with exceptional communication skills to support capability development, enable continuous improvement practices, and build strong relationships with third-party vendors.
Our ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of the ABF Vessel Management Plan, the ISM Safety Management System, and other related International Maritime Organisation (IMO) regulations.
They will demonstrate critical analysis and innovative problem resolution skills to identify capability gaps and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities Lead and manage the integration of secure radio communications for all assets within the Branch.Manage the continuous improvement program for governance of Instructions and Guidelines, Work Instructions, Marine Units Notices, and other guidance manuals.Analyse and rectify technical faults and issues with maritime operational technologies.Develop and deliver user documentation and training.Conduct configuration and change management of secure radio communications and satellite-based capabilities.Gather user requirements and liaise with third-party vendors for supply and maintenance.Improve the availability of deployed communication systems on board assets.Recommend and implement solutions to overcome identified capability gaps.Provide instructions to ensure compliance with local and Commonwealth law for the operation and maintenance of the radio communications network.Manage and contribute to capability projects and contracts.Liaise with internal and external service providers regarding service delivery of related technology.Role Requirement Applicants must have or be able to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance and pass an Employment Suitability Check.Certificate III or Diploma in Electronics and Communications, equivalent or higher.A thorough understanding of modern radio communications infrastructure.Knowledge of emerging communications technologies and industry direction.Ability to foster professional relationships within ABF and with stakeholders.Other 10 years electronics industry experience and/or 5 years marine experience.Demonstrated understanding of the ABF Vessel Management Plan and ISM Safety Management Systems.Experience with IT Infrastructure including LAN, WAN, Structured cabling, CCTV, PABX and Internal communications.Experience and/or formal qualifications in Marine Communications systems and Computerised maintenance management systems.Please prepare a one-page Applicant Response outlining:
