Geoscience Australia is leading the Australian Government's 35-year, $3.4 billion Resourcing Australia's Prosperity Initiative, mapping Australia's resources for a sustainable future.

Our team This role is based within the Mineral Potential of Australia Section, part of the Mineral Systems Branch in the Minerals, Energy and Groundwater Division.
The work of the Mineral Potential of Australia Section will be integral to the Resourcing Australia's Prospectivity initiative, a recently announced, multi-decadal investment in pre-competitive geoscience by the Commonwealth Government.
Resourcing Australia's Prosperity will, over 35 years, at a national scale and through deep dives, progressively map Australia's highly prospective regions, critical minerals, groundwater and resources needed for the transition to net zero.
The role The Geoscientist (Mineral Potential Mapping) will contribute their technical expertise in mineral systems analysis, data integration, geostatistics, and mineral potential mapping workflows, to support delivery of national resource assessments for all critical and strategic minerals as part of Geoscience Australia's Resourcing Australia's Prosperity initiative.
In this role you will: Work collaboratively within a team to integrate multi-disciplinary datasets to deliver national-scale critical mineral potential assessments as part of the Resourcing Australia's Prosperity initiative.Contribute to innovative workflow development, feature engineering, statistical analyses, and mineral potential mapping to support the delivery of new precompetitive geoscience.Provide technical expertise and leadership in mineral systems analysis and mineral potential mapping.To be successful in the role you will: Support the strategic direction of Geoscience Australia and the Australian Government's priorities on critical minerals.Have a passion for the role of geoscience in supporting the transition to net zero emissions, with a focus on Australian critical minerals and their importance to the wider community and whole of Government agenda.Provide mentoring and technical expertise to support building staff capability.Build and sustain long-term relationships and liaise with a range of stakeholders across government, industry, and academia.Proactively identify risks and issues around project delivery and provide solutions to mitigate them while maintaining effective performance.Be a team player who collaborates effectively, actively shares knowledge, is open to developing new skills, and takes personal responsibility for their work.Demonstrate a commitment to building a positive and inclusive workplace culture.Adhere to the APS Values and Code of Conduct and consistently behave in an honest, ethical, and professional way.Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications Tertiary degree or equivalent experience in geoscience or related field.Demonstrated experience in both data-driven and knowledge-driven mineral potential mapping that integrates multi-disciplinary geoscience data.
Experience with advanced statistical analysis and machine learning will be highly regarded.Experience with code development for spatial data analysis in Python, R, or other relevant programming language.Familiarity with a variety of mineral systems would be highly regarded.To Apply Please visit the careers page of our website to submit your application via our e-Recruit system.
