Our work includes projects such as AusArray and AusLAMP, which generate 3D models of the Australia lithosphere.
In addition, the team utilises thermo-chemical modelling, an advanced geophysical tool that integrates passive seismic, gravity, topography and heatflow data to create detailed models of the lithosphere's physical properties, such as temperature, density, and composition.In the Geophysicist (Observational Geodynamicist) role you will:Use your specialist technical skills to scope, lead and drive thermo-chemical modelling projects at regional and national scales.Provide high level technical and professional advice on various geophysical methods including passive seismic and magnetotelluric to inform national scale data acquisition programs.Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to interpret model implications for our understanding of mineral systems.Coordinate, engage and collaborate with key industry, government and academic stakeholders to identify opportunities and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.Contribute to and support a strategic direction that influences mineral industry investment through the provision of targeted multidisciplinary precompetitive data packages.Effectively communicate results through the preparation of high-quality technical reports presentations and peer reviewed journal articles.Effectively represent the agency at conferences and other stakeholder engagements in a professional context.Maintain professional knowledge and continue to develop knowledge and expertise in various geophysical methods.Support the Director, Onshore Seismic and Magnetotellurics, and contribute as a proactive member of the Section.To be successful in the role you will:Support the strategic direction of Geoscience Australia and the Australian Government's priorities.Provide scientific leadership, mentoring and technical expertise to support building staff capability.Communicate with others regarding the purpose of own work and the relationship between operational activities and organisational goals.Build and sustain long-term relationships; liaise with a range of stakeholders including other teams, peers and colleagues across the organisation, across government, industry and academia.Maintain focus on quality to achieve key outcomes; adhere to documented procedures and see tasks through to completion.Be a team player who collaborates effectively, actively shares knowledge, is open to developing new skills, and takes personal responsibility for their work.Present messages in a clear, concise and articulate manner and negotiate persuasively to facilitate agreement and acceptance of mutually beneficial solutions.Demonstrate a commitment to building a positive and inclusive workplace culture.Adhere to the Australian Public Service Values and Code of Conduct and consistently behave in an honest, ethical and professional way.Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualificationsProven experience with geophysical inverse methods (e.g.
Bayesian inversion).Demonstrated experience working with complex earth models preferably with a focus on mantle petrology and geodynamics.Ability to distil complex information into clear, cohesive narratives that address key scientific questions.Demonstrated ability to lead and work with multidisciplinary teams.Highly developed skills in software development for geophysical applications and familiarity with scientific programming languages (eg Fortran, python, matlab, C) are highly desirable.Experience in integrating diverse geological and geophysical datasets to develop and refine comprehensive geological models.A degree in Earth Sciences, applied mathematics or related fields is essential.To ApplyPlease visit the careers page of our website to submit your application via our e-Recruit system.
