Our client is seeking to engage an EL1 Assistant Director - Finance Business Partner.
Location: Canberra + Brisbane
Duration: 12 months with a potential extension
Employment: Non-Ongoing or S26 Transfer
Eligibility/Security Requirement: Ability to obtain a Baseline security clearance.
DUTIES The role of the Finance Business Partner is to deliver customer focused, fit-for-purpose and professional financial management and budgeting reporting, advice and analysis on behalf of the Chief Financial Officer, to Senior Executives and staff, particularly on complex matters such as financial planning, forecasting, costing and reporting.

Key duties include: Provide the conduit between the CFO and business areas to facilitate effective working relationships to foster financial management and reporting.
Provide informative and timely financial reporting to stakeholders, meeting regularly with Division heads, Branch heads and Directors.
Assist Divisions with general budget management including the development of budget bids and the allocation of approved internal budgets, particularly in support of Directors managing their budgets.
Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely forecasts.
Assist with month-end and year-end financial processes, e.g.
accruals, prepayments etc.
Provide advice on the financial position of Divisions both for the current and forward years.
Assist with the improvement of financial literacy of staff.
Assist with other regular and ad hoc financial reporting requirements requested by the Executive or central finance team.
Promote and develop financial literacy and capability across the department.
KEY COMMUNICATIONS The position interacts closely with the Technology and Finance Division and business areas to facilitate the provision of financial management services and to act as a conduit.
Major challenges of the role include: Maintaining the strategic direction of the CFO while acknowledging operational requirements.
Working with business areas to allocate resources to key strategic priorities of the department.
Prioritizing efforts on actions that make a positive impact.
Influencing stakeholders to recognize, and act upon, development of financial management capability as a priority.
Developing an understanding of the full range of financial services provided by the Finance, Technology and Insights Division.
The Finance Business Partner will be required to demonstrate initiative and possess the following attributes: Leadership and organizational skills to achieve desired results within tight timeframes.
Written and verbal communication skills to provide quality financial advice and analysis.
Experience in preparing budgeting/forecasting/financial analysis aligned with the Commonwealth financial framework and accounting standards to manage financial activity appropriately.
Analytical skills to successfully influence senior stakeholders and perform management accounting functions.
Interpersonal skills to navigate and contribute to a busy team environment.
