The Role Are you the kind of person who wants to know the answer to questions like…

"Have we done what we said we would do?"
"Was it effective?"
"How do we know?"

Do you have excellent interpersonal skills? Would you be comfortable asking people how they achieved or did not achieve outcomes?
This role is the perfect opportunity for a confident and self-motivated leader with quantitative analysis skills to use qualitative approaches and evaluation principles in the heart of Defence. You will be able to apply your skills in identifying, reporting and troubleshooting problems on a range of issues across the Australian Defence Force and broader Department of Defence.
You will liaise with stakeholders, conduct analysis and research, lead focus groups, write briefings for senior leadership, develop and maintain appropriate processes, as well as support your team to plan and carry out effective evaluation and assurance activities over select strategic issues. The role provides an opportunity to develop your leadership and influence across strategic and sensitive reform activities with long-lasting impacts on the Defence and veteran community.
Flexible work arrangements will be considered for suitable candidates. The role requires on-site access to systems and offices located within the ACT. For this reason, while flexible working arrangements can be applied to an extent, any successful candidate will be required to reside within the ACT region.
About our Team You will join a high-performing and dedicated team of implementation, evaluation, lessons, data and legal specialists in the Directorate of Select Strategic Issues Management. The team provides the Chief of Defence Force with an enterprise-wide capability to manage strategic issues, assure response, remediation, reputation and reform. Together, the team provides the Chief of Defence Force and the Vice Chief of Defence Force with timely and trusted information to enhance decision-making confidence and assist in reputation and risk management.
Our Ideal Candidate We are looking for a self-motivated, outcomes-focused leader to use quantitative and qualitative data to understand recurring issues, improve policies, and shape processes. You will need confident written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to think collegiately and strategically in the Defence context, and the interpersonal skills to maintain positive work relationships.
You must be comfortable speaking in groups and prepared to engage with a variety of stakeholders both virtually and in person, at all stakeholder levels. Finally, you will also need to be a bit flexible, be comfortable managing both busy and slower work tempos, and be prepared to fly solo every now and then.
