As the EL 1 Assistant Director WHS you will:
Understand and provide advice on the application of work health and safety legislation, Codes of Practice, Defence and SEG safety policies and procedures.Contribute to the implementation and continuous improvement of the SEG work health and safety management system, SEG SAFE, in accordance with legislation and Defence policies.Lead a small team of work health and safety experts who are located on Defence Bases across Australia, managing allocated resources, setting work priorities and setting performance indicators to achieve business outcomes.Be accountable for analysis activities to identify and address work health and safety risks to capability.Represent Security and Estate Group at internal and external work health and safety forums.Assess and evaluate work health and safety strategy, initiatives, projects, policy and procedures.Contribute to the strategic direction and future work program for the Directorate of Work Health and Safety.About our Team
The Directorate of Work Health and Safety manages a small but expert team with in-depth knowledge of work health and safety and a passion for the importance of the role they play in Defence. The activities undertaken by the team are many and varied from policy and process development, assurance, education, out-reach and WHS incident investigation.
Key functions of the Directorate include: Providing analysis and reporting to the Senior Leadership Group on WHS responsibilities, performance and trends;Managing SEG's interactions with Comcare, as the Commonwealth WHS Regulator;Working with SEG's industry partners to ensure effective management of WHS for contracted workers;Working with Defence Groups and Services to ensure a coordinated approach to safety across Defence;Representing SEG in Defence WHS and in the development of Defence WHS policies;Leading and coordinating a national network of WHS SME's.Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual who has:
Demonstrated strong skills and experience in researching and analysing activities to identify and address work health and safety risks to capability.Experience building and leading teams, including mentoring and building WHS expertise.Demonstrated highly developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present information in a clear, concise and articulate manner.Experience engaging across stakeholder groups to achieve outcomes and build strong networks and relationships across the Department.Understands the 'bigger picture' to identify emerging opportunities or threats.A passion for safety!Start your application by clicking the "begin" button.
