The Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA) is responsible for managing the application of bankruptcy and personal property securities laws through the delivery of high-quality personal insolvency and trustee, regulation and enforcement, and personal property securities services.
The Regulatory Operations Group (ROG) is responsible for operations in across the regulatory spectrum in the above areas.
This work operationalises AFSA's strategy, delivering integrated end to end regulatory activities that supports clients through AFSA systems and ensures compliance in line with AFSA's approach to regulation to: People centric, Outcomes focused, Harms based, Intelligence led, and Strengths based.
About the role
We are looking for Regulatory and Program Professionals
The Regulatory Operations Group is focused on providing highly effective regulatory programs, and compliance and enforcement activities as well as exercising statutory coercive powers to minimise harms and maintain community confidence.
The role will have a particular focus on applying a problem-solving approach to issues affecting Australia's credit system e.g.
vulnerability and the provision of untrustworthy advice.
You will work closely with your director, as well as other teams across AFSA, to deliver results.
To be successful in this role, applicants must be comfortable exercising judgement governed by critical thinking, the application of rules and regulations, and evidence-informed best practice.
Integrity capacity to prepare advice and analysis for a range of audiences, and attention to detail are paramount, while adaptability and resilience are necessary to navigate evolving regulatory landscapes.
You will monitor and regulate personal insolvency practitioner conduct, monitor proposals submitted by debtors and bankrupts, administer complex administrations, handle highly complex complaints, and prepare decisions with respect to the Inspector-General's statutory review power.
They provide analysis, and they improve our business systems, to ensure our regulatory operations remain modern and contemporary.
You will also be required to provide coaching, advice and support to junior staff and prepare decisions for delegates to exercise their statutory powers.
Qualifications, accreditations and experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:
While not essential, previous regulatory experience, insolvency, finance industry experience and/or relevant tertiary qualifications would be well regarded.
Relevant vocational or tertiary qualifications include Law, Accounting, Commerce, Public Policy or relevant disciplines from an Australian tertiary institution (or comparable overseas institution).

A merit pool of suitable candidates may be established as a result of this process to assist AFSA to fill similar ongoing and non-ongoing positions that may become available over the next 18 months.
Non-ongoing positions may be offered for a period of up to 18 months with the possibility of extension (up to a total period of 3 years).
Should a non-ongoing position become ongoing or should an ongoing position become available, the merit pool established by this process may be used to determine a suitable candidate(s).
