The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.
A new role awaitsThe NDIA Media team has an exciting EL1 Assistant Director role available.
The Media team builds and protects the NDIA's reputation with key stakeholders, including the NDIS Minister's office, by managing media relationships, responding to media enquiries and proactively promoting the success of the NDIS through key announcements, individual stories of NDIS participants and Scheme outcomes.
The Media team is part of the Media branch and the wider Strategic Communications Division.
Where you can add valueThe EL1 Assistant Director Media will contribute towards a nationally consistent, strategic approach while leveraging best practice supporting media and communications approaches across the Agency.
Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
Collaborating with relevant stakeholders to support NDIA announcements and media opportunities.Preparing high-level writing for Government and media, including media releases, talking points and speeches.Providing advice and problem solving for complex media issues and supporting the media team with navigating and responding appropriately.Delivering a high-quality service for the NDIS Minister's Office and supporting the requirements of the Agency and government.Fostering creativity and innovation in how the NDIA responds to and initiates media opportunities.Rostered on-call availability is required over weeknights and weekends, which is shared across the team.Enough about us, let's talk about youOur ideal candidate will have considerable media experience, with analytical thinking and problem-solving as key skills. Your outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities will enable you to develop and maintain strong networks. You will have experience in creating high-level written materials for government and media. You will be organised, proactive, and able to excel in a fast-paced work environment. Your experience and sound leadership skills will inspire your team to strive for the best outcomes.

Currently, our team presence is in Geelong and Richmond - VIC, Adelaide - SA, and Brisbane - QLD. Remote working arrangements may also be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered. A merit pool will be established that may be used to fill similar positions (ongoing and non-ongoing) within the next 18 months.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
