Our client is seeking to engage an EL1 Assistant Director Legal Services.

Location:Brisbane QLD, Canberra ACT, Newcastle NSW

Contract Length:3 months, with option to extend up to 3 months

Eligibility/Security Requirement:Baseline Security Clearance or be able to obtain and maintain a baseline security clearance.



Job overview

The Legal Services Division provides strategic legal advice and assistance to the agency's executive and the Minister. The division is responsible for the delivery of legal services within and on behalf of the agency.

Assistant Directors work under the broad direction of senior staff to deliver quality outcomes. They exercise a considerable degree of independence, with decision making substantially dependent on their high level of professional judgment and consideration of wider agency implications. In performing a leadership role, an Assistant Director drives innovation, changes in workplace practices and organizes work in the context of competing priorities and strategic direction.



Duties may include some or all of the following: lead and manage staff and manage performance, attendance, and health and well-beingdevelop staff capability through coaching, mentoring and succession planning to increase performance, engagement and retentiondetermine strategic direction for the work area aligned to agency goals and objectivesmanage, deliver and monitor projects and programs that may have an organization-wide impactundertake budget management, monitor expenditure and oversee procurement and contract managementidentify, monitor and report on risks, issues and benefits, developing mitigation strategies and escalating issues to managementresolve and/or escalate sensitive issues that adversely impact on the agencyprovide expert advice and feedback to the agency's executiveprepare relevant human resource reporting and coordinate recruitment, staff movements, staff rosters and schedulesdevelop and implement work area plans and contribute to strategic planning for longer term initiatives and resourcesmanage the implementation of policy review and development of new policies and guidelinesmonitor and manage compliance in work area with established agency procedures and relevant frameworksprepare and review written material including business cases, reports and executive briefs and corporate documentationdevelop and manage key stakeholder relationships and expectations to deliver work area outputssupport innovation and manage and lead changeexercise delegations appropriate to role in accordance with legislation and guidelines.
