The Financial Management Branch oversees relationships with external Departments, Agencies, and organizations, while delivering strategic financial services across the department. The Financial Operations Directorate ensures a robust financial environment through strong governance, offering guidance on financial operations. Its services include accounts payable/receivable, treasury management, financial systems administration, travel, and purchase card management.

The Department of Veterans' Affairs' Financial Operations Directorate is seeking an Assistant Director of Financial Systems to lead, manage, and provide technical advice on Financial Management Information Systems. The role will play a key part in implementing a new system, Technology One, by 2025.
Reporting to the Director of Financial Operations, this role is crucial to the development and transformation of financial management systems, working with both technical and business stakeholders. The successful candidate will lead the Financial Systems Team for Technology One and Expense8. They will provide strategic and technical advice on financial systems and help implement Technology One (TechOne) by 2025.
DUTIES Key duties for this role include:
Project managing the design and implementation of a new Financial Management Information System.Managing Technology One and Expense8 systems, including configuration changes, user access, help desk support, user training, and system testing.Writing SQL queries for data extraction, analysis, and audits, and developing dashboards and reports for senior leadership.Overseeing data migration, master data management, and cleanup.Leading, supervising, and developing a small team.Providing technical expertise on financial systems, ensuring performance, quality assurance, and continuous development.Building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, providing timely assistance and advice.Prioritizing and managing workloads, ensuring timely task completion and high-quality service.Preparing and approving end-of-month processes.REQUIREMENTS The ideal candidate will have experience in financial systems administration, strong project management, analytical skills, and attention to detail. They should be adaptable in high-pressure situations, able to work independently, and think strategically. Strong communication skills and a focus on innovation and continuous improvement are also key qualities.
Experience: At least 5+ years of demonstrated experience in managing Financial Management Information Systems, specifically with Technology One, and experience with Expense8.Leadership: A minimum of 3+ years of proven team leadership experience.Qualifications: Diploma or degree in information systems, or vocational certification in relevant design and governance frameworks or technologies (e.g., ITIL, COBIT, Agile Project Management, SaaS systems, SQL, MTA).Skills: Exceptional analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.Communication: Strong written communication skills, with the ability to develop configuration and as-built documentation, as well as training materials.Citizenship: Must be an Australian citizen.Hourly Rate: This is a non-ongoing contract with DVA at the EL1 level. A suitable salary will be negotiated with suitable candidates. Location: Canberra OR WFH Options for interstate candidates, travelling to Canberra once a month!
