$115,899 - $130,733 + up to 15.4% Superannuation Campbell Park - ACT The Role The Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide Taskforce (the Taskforce) was established in July 2021.
The Royal Commission has just released the Final Report to Government and the Taskforce will shift its focus toward coordinating the implementation of Government agreed recommendations.
The Assistant Director Communications and Ministerial Team will be accountable to deliver and enable extensive strategic communication efforts in order to respond to media enquiries, draft strategic communication products and provide advice and support to communication efforts across Defence.
You will lead on all ministerial and parliamentary products in relation to supporting the Royal Commission Taskforce and provide advice and input to facilitate clear and consistent messaging on a range of matters.
The EL 1 Assistant Director Communication and Ministerial is expected to build team capability through coaching, feedback and developing the quality of work undertaken by others.
The EL 1 Assistant Director Communication and Ministerial will be responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships, and will be required to identify relevant stakeholders' expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes.
Duty Statement Within the Taskforce the Assistant Director Communication EL1 will be responsible for the following deliverables:  Be accountable, under broad direction to deliver complex communication, media and issues management work within an integrated workforce.
Require an in-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence's mission and policy requirements.
Exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform a leadership role.
Exercise sound decision making and judgement to provide expert advice.
They will have an in-depth knowledge of the media and communication function.
Be responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to their work.
Engage in complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence.
Be accountable to plan, lead and manage a range of human and physical resources and exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve business outcomes.
Develop and implement work plans, set performance indicators, and review individual, team and business performance, focusing on identifying opportunities for building team capability and continuous improvement.
Set work that aligns with the strategic objectives and communicate expected outcomes.
Be responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships.
Be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development of their work area.
This position may have people management responsibilities and as such you will be required to exercise your people management skills and knowledge to lead a high performing and cohesive team.

The Communication line of effort enables extensive strategic communication efforts in order to respond to media enquiries, strategic communication products and provide advice and support to communication efforts across Defence.
The Ministerial line of effort leads on all ministerial and parliamentary products in relation to the Taskforce and provides advice and input to facilitate clear and consistent messaging.
