EL1 Assistant Director Business Analyst Lead, Canberra Position Type: Ongoing About the role The Assistant Director Business Analyst Team is responsible for providing strategic business analysis advice and support to the NCIS Program Manager to ensure successful delivery of the National Criminal Intelligence System (NCIS) Program strategic outcomes.
You will work with and lead Business Analysts to ensure an accurate understanding of the current state and desirable future state of simple through to complex business and technical problems.
You will write proposals and justifications for various options and approaches.
You will work to ensure consistency and quality of work for Business Analysts who write epics, help to prioritise features, and write functional requirements and acceptance criteria for the features prioritised from product backlogs.
You will work closely with Product Owners, Senior Delivery Managers, Business Users, Service Designers, Solution Architects and Designers, Team Leaders, Scrum Masters, Developers, Testers, as well as communications and change management staff.
You will report on your work and work of others.
You will work to identify and manage issues that block progress of analysis work.
You will work independently under broad direction.
You will plan and lead analysis work.
You will guide the day-to-day work of Business Analysts.
You will mentor and coach less experienced staff as needed.
You will advise management on matters relating to business analysis.
Key responsibilities: Provide effective leadership to a small team of staff delivering business analysis outcomes.
Evaluate new NCIS Program initiatives and coordinate business analysis responses and estimates for proposed work.
Evaluate business processes, business service functions, uncover areas for improvement and optimise, formulate solutions and ensure solutions meet business needs.
Effectively manage work plans with consideration for competing resources and priorities.
Serve as a liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams in the NCIS Program.
Support strategic initiatives to improve the business analysis capability.
Work under limited supervision across delivery teams.
Work closely with system users to map business processes for the purpose of understanding business domain problems.
Provide sufficient business details to delivery teams to deliver viable solutions.
Work closely with the product and technical teams to ensure clarity of communication and understanding.
Set standards and ensure the quality of work produced by Business Analysts.
Provide advice on matters relating to Business Analysis.
Participate in administrative processes as needed, including recruitment activities.
Our ideal candidate To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following experience, skills and attributes: Knowledge, understanding and experience in project management methodology.
A proven ability to communicate clearly and build strong and trusting relationships with key external and internal stakeholders in order to achieve and deliver on key outcomes.
The ability to harness information from a variety of sources and have highly developed analytical skills.
A well-developed capacity for collaboration and decision-making.
Demonstrated experience in performing Business Analyst roles, ideally in a team leader capacity.
Demonstrated understanding and experience of Agile practices.
Eligibility Citizenship – To be eligible for employment with the ACIC, applicants must be an Australian citizen.
Security Clearance - The Australian community expects ACIC employees to maintain the highest levels of security and integrity.
Successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.
