The Roles Assistant Director, Budgets We are looking for someone with a well-developed background in government budget management to confidently lead and manage the budget management requirements of our small–but growing–agency.

Assistant Director, Finance We are looking for a motivated self-starter with well-developed skills in financial management and analysis, and resource management and will demonstrate effective judgement, including an ability to operate independently, with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities As an Assistant Director, Budget , you will: provide advice and support to business areas on the development of NPPs, costings and detail costing justifications prepare management reporting and quality analysis for governance committees, senior management and key stakeholders manage and maintain budget data in FMIS and CBMS build relationships and work collaboratively across ONI to develop, maintain and monitor detailed operational and capital budgets establish and maintain internal controls that will withstand the scrutiny of internal and external audit and ensure satisfactory resolution of any audit findings or recommendations relating to budget management, reporting and controls represent ONI at internal and external meetings and working groups As an Assistant Director, Finance , you will: prepare timely and accurate monthly reporting and month end processes to meet Department of Finance reporting requirements contribute to preparation of management reporting, project reporting and quality analysis for governance committees, senior management and key stakeholders perform business as usual financial functions, including: process receipts and payments; asset management; revenue and expenditure forecasts; commitment reporting, cost analysis; prepare monthly journals and balance sheet reconciliations; prepare annual FBT and monthly BAS returns, and undertake treasury functions such as drawdowns and bank reconciliations prepare the annual financial statements, including identifying and addressing technical issues in the application of taxation and financial legislation, accounting standards establish and maintain internal controls that will withstand the scrutiny of internal and external audit and ensure satisfactory resolution of internal and external audit findings maintain compliant, effective and efficient finance business systems, processes and policies to ensure delivery of quality accounting and reporting services to both internal and external stakeholders provide leadership and direction to the finance team identify and lead opportunities for improvements to policy, process, templates and guidance and work collaboratively to adopt new initiatives Key Attributes To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate: Assistant Director, Budgets: Demonstrated experience in internal and external budget management, including the preparation of Portfolio Budget Statements and NPP costings, and the management of budget data in an FMIS and CBMS demonstrated ability to innovate and drive initiatives to improve budget management policies and processes demonstrated experience providing management reporting and quality analysis for governance committees, senior management and key stakeholders demonstrated ability to work as part of a small team, in a collaborative and flexible working environment, meet deadlines and prioritise work excellent communication skills, proven ability to engage with and influence stakeholders, both within and outside ONI Demonstrated ability to develop and implement financial policy and procedure frameworks adhering to the requirements of the Commonwealth Resource Management Framework demonstrated experience in financial and management accounting and reporting, including the preparation of financial statements, monthly reporting, FBT and BAS returns demonstrated understanding of finance and expense management systems and the ability to innovate and drive initiatives that will lead to improved business processes demonstrated experience leading small teams Desirable but not essential: hold a relevant tertiary (or equivalent) qualification and knowledge have contemporary knowledge and five years experience relevant to the role membership of professional accounting body (or working towards) How to Apply For more information about ONI, the role, eligibility and how to apply please refer to the Candidate Information Kit.
