Ekistica ( is a professional advisory and technical consultancy firm based in Central Australia with extensive experience delivering innovative solutions to the complex challenges of remote area infrastructure development, across Australia, the Pacific, South Asia and beyond.
Wholly owned by the Indigenous controlled Centre for Appropriate Technology, and with a heritage of working with remote and regional communities that spans almost forty years, our vision is a world where location is no longer a barrier to good technical outcomes: where the appropriation of technology enables people, communities and businesses to reach their full potential. We pursue this by providing high quality, independent technical advisory, design engineering and project delivery services to a wide range of national and international clients that include state and national governments, intergovernmental agencies and development banks/organisations, power utilities, community service organisations, large commercial firms and private investment firms.
You will work alongside our dynamic team of more than twenty-five professional engineers, project managers, engagement specialists and data analysts, in both lead and support capacities, to deliver an exciting and challenging suite of projects with a focus on power systems for remote communities, but also including power systems for regional commercial facilities such as airports and tourism ventures, commercial utility scale wind, solar and BESS projects, and other public and privately funded remote infrastructure developments.
The work will involve travel to remote communities, including overnight stays, stand-alone power system operational data and infrastructure assessment, technical design of upgrades and new systems, development of procurement documentation, tender management and assessment, and contract and project management; and engagement with clients and end-users (e.g. community residents, support agencies and technical staff) to inform the above.
Responsibilities A mid-career Renewable Energy professional with tertiary qualifications, you will be expected to:
Have at least 5 years of professional experience. Have both desktop and field-based experience in the assessment, design and delivery of renewable and hybrid power systems, including the specification of new electrical and renewable energy systems to appropriate Australasian and international standards. Have high quality relationship management skills, with the ability to engage project stakeholders and develop strong ongoing client relationships. The ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse range of people. Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work under minimal supervision, and as part of a team. Be actively engaged in your professional development. Location and Benefits The position is full-time and preferably based in Ekistica's offices on the beautiful Desert Knowledge Precinct in Alice Springs; however, consideration will be given to the role being based in Ekistica's Hobart office.
Ekistica offers 5 weeks annual leave each year, flexible working arrangements, an annual professional development allowance and legislated superannuation in addition to base salary, annual CPI adjustments to base salary, and a bonus structure that includes both an annual performance bonus of up to 5% of salary (exclusive of legislated superannuation contribution, which is additional), and a share of the Employee Profit Share Pool, which when made, is distributed annually to staff proportionate to their base salary and length of employment with Ekistica.
Your annual performance bonus will be assessed against the following key metrics:
Excellence in provision of technical expertise and advice. Thorough and robust project management. Collaboration and support of other members of the Ekistica team. Demonstrated engagement with the vision and values of Ekistica. Continuous focus on maintaining a culture of safety within the organisation. A relocation allowance is offered for new interstate employees, with additional government support also available.
