An exciting opportunity exists for a dedicated and innovative leader to join the Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre as a 0.2 Head of Department - Health and Physical Education / Junior Secondary.
As the Head of Department, you will work closely with the 0.8 Head of Department - Health and Physical Education / Junior Secondary Deputy and the Principal to enact the school's Strategic Plan and Explicit Improvement Agenda.

Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre (BYETC) is a co-educational school which delivers educational programs for up to 162 remanded and sentenced students at the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre.
Students from BYETC have diverse learning needs and come from a range of cultural backgrounds.
Our staff are passionate about helping improve the knowledge, skills and abilities of our students, many of whom have had disrupted or negative experiences of schooling.
We seek to educate the whole person by providing opportunities for growth, development and learning which will prepare young people for a balanced worthwhile future.
About the Role:
As Head of Department, you will lead a curriculum focus team in line with school and departmental initiatives, participate in delivering the vision of State Schools Division, develop the quality of teaching and learning, and nurture positive relationships between students, teachers, and stakeholders.
The HoD - HPE / Junior Secondary portfolio at BYETC includes line management of HPE (years 6-12) and a small team of junior secondary teachers.
The role is also responsible for supporting literacy initiatives across the school.
You will have responsibility for leading the following activities and delivery of the following key tasks:
Lead the school department to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focused on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
Set high standards for student and staff performance.
Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
Be futures oriented and strategic.

The successful applicant will have strong curriculum knowledge, well-developed interpersonal skills, and the ability to work strategically as an instructional leader.
A certificate IV in Training and Assessment would be desirable but not essential.
