About the Faculty & School
Digital and Social Media within the School of Communication is a successful discipline within the Faculty in terms of its scale, industry relevance and student outcomes. The industry sector is growing rapidly, looking to the higher education sector to equip graduates to be job ready with solid digital, communication and critical thinking skills. Its model of hands-on, industry aligned, and research-informed teaching exemplifies the UTS Model of Learning in this context.
About the role
The appointee will be required to teach and coordinate a selection of undergraduate subjects in Digital and Social Media and work collegially with team members to support the strategic teaching and learning goals of the discipline.
The appointee will be required to:
undertake a negotiated range of learning and teaching duties, including the preparation of lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops, subject co-ordination, management of sessional staff; actively engage in innovative teaching and learning practices, integrating research, theoretical concepts, and reflective critical thinking, in line with the UTS Model of Learning; contribute to higher degree research supervision as required; support and develop the overall maintenance and improvement of quality and academic standards within the School. The position will be based at the centrally located UTS Campus in Ultimo and will report directly to Dr Tisha Dejmanee.
About You
The ideal candidate to join the team will be a dynamic and dedicated professional who brings a rich understanding of teaching, engagement and curriculum development. You will also bring with you substantial experience and excellence in teaching and subject coordination in Digital and Social Media subjects.
Successful applications should also have:
A PhD in a relevant discipline in digital and social media. Distinguished record of high-quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including leading improvement of academic standards and implementing innovative teaching strategies. A deep and demonstrable knowledge of and expertise in one or more fields directly relevant to digital and social media including: digital media studies, digital audiences, digital activism, digital media industries, digital media metrics, data and AI ethics and platform studies. The ability to teach and develop curriculum for undergraduate subjects in one or more of the following fields: data and AI ethics, digital audiences, digital activism, digital media industries, digital media metrics, platform studies. Demonstrated capacity to manage and mentor staff, particularly sessional staff, with ethics and integrity. Remuneration & Benefits
Base Salary Range: $121,566 to $143,880 pa (Level B) pro-rata.
This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is part-time (0.6FTE, 3 days per week) and the appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 4 years.
