The North Queensland Region Student, Child and Family Connect team are seeking a Court Liaison Officer for the Townsville area.
As a Court Liaison Officer, you will join a team of three other Court Liaison Officers working with at-risk young people appearing in the Children's Court, to assess their education needs and support reengagement with an appropriate education pathway where necessary.
This position is offered on a temporary full-time basis until 27 August 2025 unless otherwise determined.

The Student Child and Family Connect team are dedicated to supporting young people and families to maximise learning days for successful long-term educational engagement.

Your Role:
Using strong stakeholder engagement, cultural capability, and relationship skills, you will work with the key stakeholders of the Children's Court, as well as community groups, families, and young people.
You will have a strong understanding of the complex needs of young people involved with the justice system and be able to liaise with schools and alternative education providers to implement sustainable education outcomes.

Responsibilities include:
Liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders including Magistrates, Judges, Youth Justice Services, legal representatives, police, Community Justice Groups, and community organisations, providing a departmental perspective.
Build strong relationships with young people and families involved in the Youth Justice System.
Assess the young person's enrolment status and liaise with them and their family/carers, their legal representative, police prosecutions, and youth justice staff to offer education assistance if required.
Refer young people, including those with minimal required intervention, and those with high complex educational needs, to avenues for direct support/advocacy.
Provide information related to a young person's educational history to the Courts.
Act as a conduit in finding appropriate educational pathways in liaison with Youth Justice and Department of Education regions such as the Youth Engagement Hubs, Senior Guidance Officers, and Principals.
Develop an education plan to support a young person to transition into a suitable educational pathway in consultation with the young person, their family, Child Safety, Youth Justice, and other relevant stakeholders.
Ensure privacy and confidentiality requirements are adhered to so that information obtained from young people and families and departmental information systems is used within legislative and policy requirements.
Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to assist with young people's re-engagement in educational pathways.
Collect and collate data in relation to the CLO role to support program improvement and support against strategic directives.
