This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2025 Kelmscott Senior High School (SHS) is seeking an experienced and passionate leader to join their team as the Special Needs Education Assistant (SNEA) – Lead. As a host school for the Specialised Learning Program: Autism, the school places a strong emphasis on an inclusive approach to education.
The role of the SNEA - Lead is to work closely with the Manager of Corporate Services (MCS), Program Coordinator, Specialised Learning Program: Autism (PC SLP:A), and Learning Support team to oversee the allocation of Education Assistants across the school. In consultation with teachers, parents/caregivers and School Psychologists, or other relevant professionals, the SNEA - Lead will be expected to contribute to the design and implementation of student plans and to provide solutions and support to teachers, which promote positive student behaviour and improved educational outcomes in the classroom. Applicants with the capacity to support students to develop their AUSLAN skills will be highly regarded.
Our Education Assistant team is experienced, knowledgeable and trauma-informed. The SNEA – Lead should confidently lead this group, with regard for their strength and abilities, to develop their potential. The SNEA – Lead will assist in the performance management of Education Assistants including conducting classroom observation and providing feedback to the MCS, PC SLP:A, and/or Learning Support teaching staff. The SNEA – Lead should have the capacity to mentor, coach and model good practices for other Education Assistants and maintain regular communication with the Education Assistant team.
Ideally, the successful applicant will bring a solutions-focused and student-centred approach to all tasks, enabling the delivery of high-quality learning programs and improved educational outcomes in the classroom. They will maintain strict confidentiality regarding student needs and procure respectful relationships with all stakeholders including teaching staff across all levels of the school. It is highly desirable for the successful applicant to have experience in creating Education Assistants timetables, particularly in a daily relief capacity.
