RoleThe STEM Assistant is responsible for preparing equipment and materials for teachers and students to undertake practical activities.The STEM Assistant must use safe operating procedures, prepare risk assessments identifying new/revised safety requirements and recommend implementation.All hazards must be reported to the appropriate staff for follow-up.The STEM Assistant is responsible for maintaining existing stock control systems, including reconciliation of stock records, investigating discrepancies and noting required repairs of disposals for all STEM subjects.Assist students with practical activities and STEM project work.ResponsibilitiesPreparation of practicals, displays and demonstrations for STEM classes.Plan and manage day to day routines of the STEM rooms.Establish and maintain systems for the storage, access and control of resources in STEM rooms.Participate in the preparation and management of the STEM budget.Undertake care and maintenance of specialist equipment.Organise repairs and servicing with outside groups.Train staff and students in use and care of STEM equipment.Manufacture and fabricate equipment for use in practical lessons or demonstrations.Establish and monitor safety procedures against potential hazards.Accompany teachers and assist in the supervision of students on excursions as approved by the line manager.Liase with teaching staff regarding their practical and clerical requirements, use of rooms and multimedia.Prepare and trial experiments and apparatus for the teaching staff to demonstrate to the students.Demonstrate STEM projects for new staff.Attend practical sessions and assist teachers at their request to ensure safe work systems are followed and risks are minimised.Establish and set up new experiments, demonstrations and models as requested by teaching staff.Maintain the cleanliness and maintenance of the STEM rooms, associated equipment, chemicals and stack solutions on a regular rotation basis.Order equipment, resources and chemicals as required.Be thoroughly conversant with all WHS guidelines and legal requirements relevant to safe practice in STEM/Maker Spacers and ensure same are put into practice.This includes safe storage and handling all apparatus.Be capable of rendering First Aid in the event of an accident or ill health bearing in mind all necessary precautions and deciding on an appropriate follow up course of action.Perform any other duties as required from time to time by the Principal.Who May ApplyIndividuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position.EEO AND OHS CommitmentApplicants seeking part-time employment are encouraged to apply for any teaching service position and, if they are the successful candidate, request a reduced time fraction.Such requests will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis and will be subject to the operational requirements of the school.The Department of Education is committed to the principles of equal opportunity, and diversity and inclusion for all.We value diversity and inclusion in all forms -
