Ecologist / Senior Ecologist
to join our team in
Rockhampton .
If you have a strong background in Australian ecosystems, particularly with a focus on botany, and are skilled in scientific report writing and Queensland environmental legislation, this is an exciting opportunity for you.
In this role, you will lead the delivery of ecological assessments, environmental management solutions, and conservation planning across various projects in Australia, primarily in Queensland and New South Wales.
You'll work on both large-scale and small-scale projects for a diverse client base, ensuring compliance with State and Commonwealth guidelines.
Key responsibilities include conducting ecological assessments, managing data, preparing detailed reports and maps, drafting proposals, engaging with clients, and overseeing project timelines and budgets.
This is a full-time position, based in our Rockhampton office.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will need:
Tertiary qualifications in Ecology, Biology, or Environmental Sciences.
A minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role.
Demonstrated expertise in ecological surveys, particularly in botanical studies and reporting.
Strong knowledge of Queensland flora and fauna, with skills in species identification, handling, and management.
Experience in planning, coordinating, and conducting ecological fieldwork, including in remote locations.
Familiarity with Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) requirements in Queensland, particularly related to ecology.
Working knowledge of Queensland and Commonwealth environmental legislation.
Proven skills in data analysis and scientific report writing.
Excellent time management and project management capabilities.
A strong commitment to safety and adherence to safe work practices.
Well-developed analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
The ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and ensure safety in field operations.
A current driver's license (manual vehicle preferred).
Highly Regarded Skills and Attributes:
Construction white card.
Proficiency in QGIS and/or ArcGIS mapping.
Knowledge of R statistics.
Experience with Python coding.
Experience in conducting Biocondition surveys and qualification as a suitably qualified person for protected plant surveys.
A proven track record in preparing a range of high-quality consulting reports.
Prior ecological consulting experience (preferably in Queensland).
Completion of major project safety inductions and training.
Strong skills in project, budget, and client management.
