In this role, you will support the DSHS mission to transform lives and the WA State Health and Human Services (HHS) Enterprise Coalition goals of removing barriers to access for client benefits by leading and directing activities to redesign benefits access and service delivery through modernizing systems, policy simplification, and human-centered design efforts.
The IE&E Modernization Program is a multi-year effort under the leadership and governance of the Washington State Health and Human Services Enterprise Coalition (HHS Coalition). This position is a great opportunity to support DSHS' mission to Transform Lives as well as supporting HHS Coalition goals. As a Senior Cloud Network Architect/Engineer you will play a critical role in designing, developing, implementing, and managing sophisticated cloud-based systems to support the IE&E Cloud Platform and product initiatives. This role requires a deep understanding of Azure networking services and solutions to build scalable, secure, and high-performance cloud environments. This role will work on the IE&E Platform team to enhance the operational efficiency and security of our cloud network infrastructure, specifically within Microsoft Azure.
Key Objectives of this position are:
Apply advanced knowledge in data connectivity to independently architect, design, and implement cloud networking solutions in Azure, on-premises, and to vendors and business partners. Work in tandem with our cloud solutions architect and engineering teams to identify and implement optimal network cloud-based solutions using Azure networking services such as Azure Virtual Network, Azure VPN Gateway, Azure Application Gateway, Private Endpoints, and Azure Firewall. Drive network automation and continuous service delivery and improvements through tools like Azure Automation and Azure DevOps. Implement network observability and monitoring using Azure Monitor, Azure Network Watcher, and Log Analytics. Perform problem isolation and resolution of network problems leveraging Azure diagnostics and troubleshooting tools. Assist in partner network integration testing and monitoring, ensuring seamless connectivity and compliance with security policies. Define and document best practices and strategies regarding cloud networking infrastructure, focusing on Azure's native capabilities. Provide guidance, leadership, and mentorship to development teams to build cloud networking competencies. Some of what you'll do
Independently design network topology and traffic flow for cloud-based systems based on micro-segmentation and zero trust models, utilizing Azure Virtual WAN and Azure Private Link. Create secure network designs that meet or exceed regulatory and organizational requirements, incorporating Azure Security Center recommendations. Design and implement load balancing and other network virtual appliances to meet the IE&E effort, using Azure Load Balancer and Azure Traffic Manager. Design and implement web application firewalls (WAF) for internet-facing applications in compliance with federal, state, and DSHS security rules, using Azure WAF on Application Gateway. Design and implement site-to-site VPN tunnels to vendors and state deployment needed to support IE&E efforts, leveraging Azure VPN Gateway. Design firewall zones, VLANs, and subnets based on organizational needs and federal, state, and DSHS requirements, using Azure Firewall and Azure Network Security Groups (NSGs). Gather system requirements working together with application architects and owners. Debug technical issues inside a complex deployment involving virtualization, containers, and microservices. Collaborate with the product engineering teams to enable their applications to run on cloud infrastructure. Assist with the creation of incident response procedures. What we're looking for
