About Domestic Violence North Queensland (DVNQ) Domestic Violence North Queensland (DVNQ) is dedicated to providing culturally appropriate, respectful, and holistic support to those affected by domestic and family violence (DFV). About the Opportunity DVNQ is looking for both Specialist Domestic and Family Violence Advocates (Level 4) and Advanced Specialist Domestic and Family Violence Advocates (Level 5) based in Townsville, QLD. Both roles report to the Team Leader and involve providing specialist DFV support, including risk assessments, safety planning, case management, and referrals.
The Advanced Specialist DFV Advocate (Level 5) will also take on additional leadership responsibilities, mentoring other DFV advocates, supervising service delivery, and working within embedded police partnerships to provide innovative and holistic responses to DFV.
Key Responsibilities: Level 4: Providing trauma-informed crisis response, including risk and needs assessments and safety planning. Delivering services grounded in a feminist analysis of the gendered nature of DFV. Coordinating emergency accommodation and home safety upgrades. Liaising with internal colleagues and external organisations to ensure holistic support. Supporting clients in navigating court processes and obtaining protection orders. Participating in community education, awareness activities, and advocacy. Level 5 (In addition to the above): Providing formal mentoring and supervision of Level 4 DFV Advocates, ensuring high-quality service delivery. Leading trauma-informed practice development and coordinating court work programs. Engaging with partner agencies, including working within police stations, to support victim-survivors and improve system integration. Driving continuous improvement projects, leading initiatives, and revising practice manuals in collaboration with leadership. About You To qualify, you will need a tertiary qualification in a relevant human services discipline or significant experience in the sector, with a minimum of two years for Level 4 and three years or more for Level 5 roles. A deep understanding of First Nations cultures and the impact of intergenerational trauma is essential for both levels.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued: Level 4: Knowledge of current DFV legislation and best practices. Strong decision-making and case-management skills. Ability to communicate complex information sensitively and effectively. Experience working in a culturally competent manner with First Nations peoples. High competency with technology and record-keeping systems. Level 5 (In addition to the above): Experience in mentoring and supervising teams in DFV services. Advanced decision-making and practice leadership, including working within embedded service models. Capacity to coordinate legal clinics, supervise court processes, and work with external agencies like QPS. A current QLD C Class Driver's License and Working with Children Check (Blue Card) are essential for both roles.

About the Benefits Employees classified under Level 4 of the SCHADS Award can expect to earn between $43.08 and $46.35 per hour. For those at Level 5, the hourly rate ranges from $49.28 and $51.51.
