The Law Society of New South Wales is looking to employ a Disclosures Solicitor to join the Legal Regulation team on a part time basis, four days per week.
About the team
Legal Regulation investigates complaints about solicitors and unqualified persons which are referred to it by the Legal Services Commissioner or made by the Professional Conduct Committee or the Manager of the Department under the delegated power. In addition to its investigatory role, the team has a litigation section conducting matters in the Tribunal. Legal Regulation also provides services and assistance to members by provision of general advice, ethics advice, costs and regulatory assistance and has an educational component.
About the role
The Disclosures Solicitor has a primary focus on disclosures and would suit someone with a keen interest in regulatory compliance . You will be required to investigate and resolve disclosures by and complaints against solicitors including reporting to the Disclosure and Professional Conduct Committees, preparing memoranda to Council, legal support for the Litigation Manager and litigating where necessary.
What you'll be doing
Expeditious analysis and investigation of disclosures by solicitors including draft relevant notices.
Managing Disclosures Manual and Precedents.
Expeditious analysis and investigation of complaints against solicitors.
Examination, investigation, research, report and make recommendations on disclosures and complaints.
Receive and manage subpoenas served on the Society and liaise with Litigation Section.
Obtaining and collecting evidence to support any prosecution or advice given by Litigation section as necessary.
Liaison with complainants, solicitors, Professional Conduct Committee, Council, Legal Services Commissioner and his staff.
Active involvement in Department including legislative and legal development.
Active case and practice management.
Handle the appointment of Investigators, Managers/Supervisors, and Receivers.
About you
Legal Qualifications with extensive relevant legal experience.
Admission as a solicitor.
Sound knowledge of Legal Profession Act and related legislation.
Good grasp of solicitor's accounting practice.
Proven ability to use clear, concise language in correspondence and reports.
Ability to plan and organise to ensure the timely completion of tasks.
Ability to structure, engage and present information clearly.
Excellent computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office.
Demonstrates willingness and determination to set clear goals.
Ability to use information, knowledge and experience to analyse and form judgements.
Behaves in an honest and trustworthy manner, values teamwork and acts with integrity.
Displays a commitment to quality client service, values the supplying of accurate and timely information and relates to people from diverse backgrounds.
Understanding of Uniform law is advantageous but not essential.
