Job DescriptionIntroduction: The Disability Support Worker provides compassionate and comprehensive assistance to individuals with disabilities, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social needs are met. This position involves providing personalized care, promoting independence, and fostering a supportive environment for clients to thrive in their daily lives.
Key Responsibilities: Personal Care Assistance:
Assist clients with personal hygiene tasks, including bathing, grooming, and toileting.
Aid clients with dressing and undressing, ensuring their comfort and dignity.
Assist with mobility, transfers, and positioning as needed.
Using apparatuses, such as slings and hoists, to assist clients with various tasks.Medication Management:
Administer medications according to prescribed schedules and dosage instructions.
Monitor and document clients' medication intake and any observed side effects.
Communicate with healthcare professionals regarding medication changes or concerns.Daily Living Support:
Assist clients with meal preparation, feeding, and dietary needs.
Provide support with household tasks such as light cleaning, laundry, and organizing.
Accompany clients to appointments, outings, and social activities as requested.Emotional and Social Support:
Build rapport and trust with clients, fostering positive relationships based on respect and empathy.
Provide emotional support and companionship, actively listening to clients' concerns and providing reassurance.
Encourage clients to engage in recreational activities and hobbies to promote social interaction and mental stimulation.Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client care activities, including daily progress notes and incident reports.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and healthcare professionals regarding clients' needs and any changes in their condition.
Adhere to confidentiality policies and regulations when handling sensitive client information.Safety and Wellbeing:
Ensure a safe and hazard-free environment for clients, identifying and addressing potential risks.
Follow infection control protocols and guidelines to prevent the spread of illness or infection.
Respond promptly to emergencies or crisis situations, following established procedures and protocols.Desired Skills and ExperienceMinimum Cert 3 in Individual support/Disability or equivalentPrevious experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a similar caregiving role highly desirable.A willingness to undergo background checks and meet any other requirements mandated by regulatory bodies or employers.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, families, and healthcare professionals.Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating reliability and flexibility in a dynamic caregiving environment.Basic knowledge of personal care techniques, infection control practices, and safety procedures.
